2006 (Freshman): Played in seven games, rushing for 36 yards on 15 carries ... had four carries for 19 yards, including a 10-yard run, in his first career game against Western Michigan.
2005: Redshirted the 2005 season.
Prep: Rushed for 1,236 yards and 11 touchdowns at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy for head coach John Shuman ... also caught nine passes for 37 yards ... as a senior at Concordia (Ind.) High School (2003), Payton rushed for 1,600 yards, including a school-record 365 yards in one game for head coach Dean Doerffler ... Concordia went 9-4 that season and won its first 3A sectional and regional championships.
