Britain is Turning into Philadelphia

It was a week of much opportunity for British sport.
On Wednesday, England travelled to Russia, needing only a draw to have a good chance of qualifying for Euro 2008. After 5 consecutive 3-0 wins, things looked good, despite the game being played on a "plastic pitch". I.e. not grass. We even took a 1-0 lead, but things went tragically wrong as we lost 2-1.
Then this weekend, England played South Africa in the Rugby World Cup Final. England couldn't get into the game, but we lost 15-6. But we could stomach that - we were not supposed to win the game, and it was a miracle that we had got that far at all.
On Sunday, it was our greatest chance for success. Lewis Hamilton just needed a top 5 to win the World Championship of 2007. But he had a gearbox problem, and could only finish seventh, enough to concede the World Championship to Kimi Raikkonen by 1 point. Barring an appeal against BMW and Williams, who ran the fuel at too low a temperature (increasing their power), Hamilton will have failed.
Then later that night, Englishman Ronnie O'Sullivan took on Marco Fu of Hong Kong in the Final of Snooker's Grand Prix. It started well, O'Sullivan led 5-3, but collpased as Fu won 9-6.
Britain has come up short in four sports in one week. When other countries start beating us at snooker, you know there's something afoot...
