Breaking News: Bruce Gradkowski Named in Gambling Ring

by SSreporters

Bruce Gradkowski, one of Tampa Bay's 484,896,396 QB's in their roster, has been named in a point shaving scandal at his alma mater Toledo. The FBI haven't spoken to him, nor will they charge him for anything. Investigators had apparently looked at the games in which he played, as well as the final scores and betting patterns. Those 2 things caused suspicion for the investigators, and there will be more as the days pass by. If this is all true, this is just sickening. What is up with these players and these gambling problems? It's terrible, but then again, this has not been a year for sports scandals. Again, this is a breaking news story, and there will be more to this story as it develops.

Me thinks if it's true, then the Bucs will have a QB controversy.

don't they already... I know simms is not going to play for a while...obviously Gradkowski's involvement decreases his chances...and Garcia appears to be the best of the bunch anyways...I think next year the bucs will be looking for a legit "franchise" qb...especially if they play as poorly as predicted

Donaghy should be looking into the witness protection program if he was smart.

It's sad, but this headline wasn't too surprising. I certainly didn't who or what exactly, but the fact that this is going on isn't all that shocking anymore. At this point, would it be safe to assume that the influence of gambling in the world of sports is farther-reaching than we suspected?

Imagine that, another poor college kid gets into a point shaving scandal. If they would pay these kids who are making tons of money for the university a modest salary, say $20,000 a year to get by on, there would be a lot less scandals in collegiant sports.

not only do you go to college for free...i'll give you the example of my school...the approx cost without any scholarship is probably close to 15k per semester + Room and board...or a little over 40k per year...plus they get use of their own gym and other facilities and additional bonus such as extra "university dollars" and the largest meal plan...preferential treatment for different organizations and class (and times)...

still, 40k of a solid education and free living...sounds good to me...

for the record my college football team is 1-AA...they don't make all that much cash (the hockey team does)

I went to college in the '70's, when your athletic scholorship only covered your education, imagine that! If you wanted extras, like food, clean clothes, gas money, a roof over your head, you either got a job, lived off your buddies, (free athletic tickets, gear, etc, in exchange for free rent), or got a job.

What a concept, huh?

College athletes today have it made. Most of them don't even go to class, and the one's they do go to might as well be kindergarten refresher courses. Plus they get their expenses paid, in addition to the education. Laundry? Done. Need a car? Here, call this number. Housing? Athletic department owns an off campus apartment building, free everything. Don't even have to leave a security deposit.

The one thing college athletes don't need is money.

Yeah, but how many of those kids are really there to get an education? They are there for one reason and one reason only, to play football and make money for the school. When USC sells tens of thousands of $80 Reggie Bush jerseys, then I think he has earned a little bit more than a free education.
