Breaking News!! Ronaldinho Signs With Chelsea

20
Vote

by JMoffat

News has broke that Barcelona midfielder Ronaldinho has signed with English team Chelsea.

Ronaldinho signed for a 5 year, 116 million dollar transfer fee.

Chelsea and Barcelona will have to agree on the transfer fee, and if they do, Ronaldinho will join the Blues next year.

After Chelsea lost their manager, Jose Mourinho, last week, will the Blues be able to turn their fortunes around after this huge huge huge signing??

ESPN did claim it but for some reason they pulled back the claim

The article says that it isn't official, and that Ronaldhino could still decided against it.

Ironically though, it's not on Soccernet. Also, The Sun isn't the most reputable of sources. I'll take the "wait until the BBC or says so" approach.

This was rumored to be coming down on last night's Fox Soccer Report, it does not surprise me.

yep, ESPNEWS has run it on the ticker, but teams still have to agree to a transfer fee and the like before anything gets locked up.

If that's the case, then he hasn't signed with them at all.

The report comes from The Sun in London. I don't follow soccer, don't claim to, don't want to make the claim. Was just stating the facts as they rolled on my screen.

The Sun is probably the most untrustworthy journalism in the world. Also, the transfer deadline has passed, so whatever happens, nothing will happen until January. So it isn't worth worrying about. Chelsea do not need Ronaldinho. Lampard is their Ronaldinho, and he does a good job for them. So unless you're going to drop Lampard, I don't know where else he would fit into the team. Unless you play Ronaldinho as a striker? Which wouldn't make much sense.

They're really desperate at striker though. In January, they won't have Drogba (healthy or not) or Kalou, since they'll be playing in the African Cup of Nations, leaving only Pizarro and Shevchenko as strikers on the roster. Now if I was going to get a striker, I wouldn't pick Ronaldinho, since it isn't his natural position, although he can play it in a pinch.

Lampard might go with Jose now gone. There is a real possibility of a mass exodus from Stamford Brige...what happens if they finish outside the top 4. No way Roaldinho will go to a club that's not in the Champions League.

Wouldn't making a deal like this outside of the transfer window and behind closed doors be some sort of tapping up? I mean would Chelsea be getting an advantage in bidding on the player by doing this outside the transfer window? Anyone able to clear this up for me?

Arranging a transfer outside the window is OK, however you cannot acquire said player until the next window. One window is July-August, and the other is January. As for tapping up, if both teams consent then no harm is done. Tapping up only happens when the player's team is not part of the discussion.

If true, this doesn't really scare me much. Ronaldhino was troublesome at Barcelona, and with all the turmoil over at CSKA Fulham, I don't think signing the entire Brazilian national team will make much of a difference.

I love that "until the transfer fee is agreed." If there was any steam on this, every major news outlet around the world would have jumped on it like rabid dogs. As far as Chelsea, I think they are a mess with or without Ronaldinho. If this is Abramovich's master stroke, their CL place looks in jeopardy.

Does anyone think that this move will transpire? if yes, do you think that this will help Chelsea or would it be just another Real Madrid. Personally i don't think that Ronaldinho would help Chelsea in terms of soccer, however, he is good for the market by bringing in more income for Chelsea. This move would just ruin the whole chemistry of the team plus Malouda is doing a great job already.

It is just speculation. Yes there is talk about him going soon, but it makes no sense now that he is cup-tied. Will he be at Chelsea or AC Milan next year... let's cross that bridge when we get to it. Remember ESPN and The Sun want to get hits and sell newspapers. ESPN is known for getting stories out there quickly (sometimes taking credit for stuff they never broke in the first place) but they are about 50% correct on the stories they break anyway. Whatever story they get that is right, they will still find a way to screw it up . Ronaldinho isn't going anywhere- yet.
