Boston Red Caps

The franchise started in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings (1871-1875). From 1876 to 1882, the team that would eventually become the Atlanta Braves played as the Boston Red Caps.

Under the leadership of Harry Wright, the team finished in fourth place with a record of 39-31.

Under the leadership of Harry Wright, the team finished in first place with a record of 42-18 and won the NL pennant.

The 1878 team again finished in first place and again won the NL Pennant under the leadership of Harry Wright. They finished the season with a record of 41 wins and 19 losses.

The 1879 team fell to second place with a record of 54-30. Harry Wright still the manager.

1880 team fell all the way to 6th place with a record of 40-44. Harry Wright manager.

1881 team again 6th place finish. Record of 38-45. Harry Wright manager.

1882 team climbed up to a third place finish under the leadership of new manager John Morrill with a record of 45-39.

In 1883, the Boston Red Caps became the Boston Beaneaters (1883-1906).
