Booz Allen Classic
The Booz Allen Classic is a regular golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It is played annually in June in Potomac, Maryland. Since 1987 the tournament has been held on the course at the TPC at Avenel. 2005 was played at Congressional Country Club, where it was founded. Booz Allen Hamilton is the main sponsor of the tournament.
The 2006 purse was $5,000,000, with $900,000 going to the winner. The tournament was founded in 1968 as the Kemper Open. In 1992, football quarterback Mark Rypien was given a sponsor's exemption into the tournament and shot rounds of 80-91. Many up and coming players have first won here as top players often take the week off since it is the week before the US Open. For 2007, The PGA rescheduled the event for the Fall and Booz Allen has declined to renew its sponsorship.
