Billy Purtell (William Patrick Purtell) was born on January 6, 1886 in Columbus, Ohio. He made his Major League debut on April 16, 1908 for the Chicago White Sox. In 1909, his rookie year, he hit .258 with 0 home runs and 40 RBI. Purtell played for the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that Billy Purtell's best season was 1910, when he knocked in 51 runs.
