Billy Barnes (William Ray Barnes) was born on May 14, 1935 in Landis, North Carolina. After going to high school at Landis (NC), Barnes attended Wake Forest University. Barnes made his professional debut in the NFL in 1957 with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that 1958 was Billy Barnes's best year, as he ran for 551 yards, ran in 7 TDs and hauled in 35 receptions.
