Born on June 25, 1875 in Duluth, Minnesota, Bill Phyle (William Joseph Phyle) played for the Chicago Orphans, New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 4 year career. Phyle broke into the bigs on September 17, 1898 with the Chicago Orphans, and put up a 4.20 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched in 1899, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Bill Phyle's best season was 1901, when he posted a 4.27 ERA and struck out 62 batters.
