Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was upgraded to fair condition Tuesday as he recovers from injuries sustained after a motorcycle crash on Monday's morning. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gzette, Rothlisberger will be release in 3-5 days and will be ready to play in the Steelers' season opener.

Alright, I agree that Big Ben was stupid for not wearing a helmet, but that's just low. Comeon, I bet he could score at least 10 on the wunderlic

Most motorcyclists don't wear a helmet. Sure, it's not the smartest thing in the world, but it doesn't make them all idiots. Anyone who doesn't wear his seatbelt is nearly as bad. Anyone who eats at McDonalds is risking his health.

Actually it does make them idiots. If he had been wearing one, he would be ok. Not wearing a helmet is like playing russian roulette. The one time the bullet comes up, you are f***ed.

Since not wearing a helmet made him feel so free, I guess he'll next be skydiving without a parachute. He is lucky to be alive - everyday, this happens to people who are not celebrities, and they die. Maybe now he'll recognize how precious life is and how easily he can lose everything - he's not invicible, he's not super human, he's just a flesh and blood guy who can have his brains splattered on some car's windshield just like anyone else.

He's a risk taker by nature, simple as that. I do wish he had chosen to wear a helmet, of course, but he lives on the edge it is who he is. Futhermore, it's something we here in Pittsburgh celebrate about him everytime he takes the field. I think he shoulders alot of responsiblity to his Family and the Steeler Organization so I wish that would have been enough to make him make the decision to wear the helmet. Thank God he will be okay and hopefully it's a lesson learned

How do they really know he'll be ready to go by the season opener?

I'm not seeing anyone saying that he'll be ready to go by season opener. This is the only quote that seems to allude to when he can play. If he misses all of camp and loses weight and muscle, he's not going to be ready to start the year.

"He could miss most of training camp, and is expected to lose weight because of the jaw injury. He'll need time to regain his strength, timing and conditioning.

Doctors also cautioned that medical problems can develop after such an accident, though all signs in Roethlisberger's case appear to be positive."

I think it is a day by day situation which is why no one in the Steeler organization is making a statement yet. I think Ben will do everything he can to be there for the team but I don't think he will put himself out there at anything less than 100%. It isn't worth risking the long career he has ahead of him. Steeler fans love the guy too much to see him do that.
