Bert Coan (Elroy Bert Coan, III) was born on July 2, 1940 in Timpson, Texas. After going to high school at Pasadena (TX), Coan attended Texas Christian University and the University of Kansas. Coan made his professional debut in the AFL in 1962 with the San Diego Chargers. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers over the course of his 7 year career.

Most people believe that 1966 was Bert Coan's best year, as he ran for 521 yards and ran in 7 TDs.
