Ben Mayes (Benjamin Clayton Mayes) was born on March 16, 1945 in St. Petersburg, Florida. After going to high school at Gibbs (St. Petersburg, FL), Mayes attended Drake University. Mayes made his professional debut in the AFL in 1969 with the Houston Oilers. He played for the Houston Oilers for his entire 1 year career.
