Barron Miles
[edit] BiographyAcquired: Signed by B.C. as a free agent in 2005. 2006: A career-year for the nine-year veteran as he terrorized opposing quarterbacks to the tune of a CFL-best 10 interceptions for 206 return yards and two TD’s. Barron also added 39 defensive tackles, four pass knockdowns as well as three forced fumbles and fumble recovery through 18 regular season games. Barron also notched one defensive tackle, a blocked kick and a sack in the West Championship as well as three defensive tackles in the Grey Cup. Barron’s outstanding play earned him spots on both the West Division and CFL All-Star squads as well as the CFLPA All-Star Team. 2005: Started 17 of 18 games for the Lions at safety missing only one game due to injury. Named to the 2005 West All-Star Team as a defensive back and led the Lions with 6 interceptions (4th in the CFL). Was recognized by the CFL as Defensive Player-of-the-Week for Sep 13/05. 2003: Named to the East Division All-Star Team grabbing 6 interceptions (4th in the CFL). 2002: Was again named to the CFL All-Star Team and ranked 3rd in the league with 7 interceptions. Awarded the James P. McCaffrey Trophy as the East's Top Defensive Player. 2000: Named to the CFL All-Star team. 1999: Named to the CFL All-Star team. 1998: Received the East Division Rookie-of-the-Year Award. Notable: Appearing to only get better with time, Miles was named CFL Defensive Player of the Week after a two interception performance at Calgary (July 21/06) and also picked up the Defensive Player of the Month nod for July. Barron has been named an All-Star on 6 occasions in his 8 full seasons of action (missed the 2001 season while rehabilitating a shoulder injury). He has more career interceptions (46) and blocked kicks (9) than any other Lion player. Barron was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1995 (199th overall) he attended two training camps but failed to crack the club before being assigned to the Frankfurt Galaxy in 1997. College: Attended the University of Nebraska. Personal: Barron was very active this off season taking part in numerous Lion charitable events and programs such as Lions in the House. Miles and his wife, Jennifer Bazata are the proud parents of three children.
