It was another night that was off to the races for the Sox scoring the first four of five batters with Paul Konerko hitting a sacrifice fly to get Jim Thome home. Baltimore’s starting pitcher, Daniel Cabrera, was lucky enough to see the entire White Sox starting lineup by going through the rotation and ended with who he faced first, Scott Podsednik. Cabrera gave up eight hits and six walks in 6 2/3 innings.
Jon Garland extended his winning streak to four games tonight to make him eight and four on the season. Garland pitched seven and a third innings giving up one earned run on six hits.
With the White Sox up four to one with two outs in the eighth “Big” Bobby Jenks came in to relieve Matt Thorton who faced Roberts, who grounded out to third base. Jenks strikes out Lopez to end the inning.
Jenks then gives the South Siders a bit of scare as the first three batters all got hits including a deep double hit, by Jeff Conine, to center to allow Mora to score making the O’s down by two with runners now at second and third base. Jenks then settled down and struck out his next three batters with Miller looking down at Jenks last pitch.
"I was missing my spots so bad," Jenks said. "After those couple of hits, I started hitting my spots again and was able to get myself out of it."
The White Sox close up the series in Chicago on Thursday against Baltimore with Vazquez facing Orioles right hander, Russ Ortriz. The first pitch is at 7:05.
Iguchi is expected to start Friday against Boston after a light ankle sprain involving Dye from Monday night. Third baseman, Joe Crede, got hit by another pitch on what appeared to be on his belt. Tuesday’s involvement had Crede holding his left wrist after getting plunked. His x-rays were negative.
