BREAKING NEWS: NFL Network to Simulcast Pats/Giants Game on CBS and NBC

It seems as though the NFL Network has broken down under the immense pressure of the wrath of Bill Belichick (or the cable companies, I'm not sure which is stronger). ESPN has just reported the New England Patriots and New York Giants game this Saturday night will be simulcast on CBS and NBC.

In case you've been living under a rock, the Patriots will be playing to become the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to finish the NFL regular season with a perfect record. The Giants have already solidified their position in the playoffs as the 5th seed in the NFC, and will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs.

So far all of you planning on going to a friend's house or a sports bar to watch the game, you still can, but you don't have to. You can enjoy the Pursuit of Perfection from the comfort of your own home.

Enjoy the game, folks! I know I will, no matter how much Bryant Gumbell will make me think otherwise...

This is good for me. I leave on Friday for school, leaving behind the 250 channels, including the NFL Network, and get back to my 40 channels, not including the NFL Network. It saves me money from having to go to a bar and watch it.

I believe there is Gumbel...it will be the NFL Network's coverage aired on NBC and CBS. So it'll Marshall Faulk and Co. delivering their riveting analysis, and Gumbel sounding more dead than Joe Buck in his grave.

I'm going to mute the televison. It's the only way to stay sane.

I heard in Europe, and then confirmed, that for soccer matches played, you can mute the commentators only, and listen to the crowd noise.

someone needs to perfect this...maybe even let you switch to a radio play-by-play guy (like the home teams radio guy...or even a dedicated TV guy based on the home team?)

just someone to call the plays would be perfect...

then again, just crowd noise would be fine too...

That's what I'm most excited about. I have NFL Network, but I can't stand listening to Bryant Gumbel. He and Collinsworth sounded like total idiots in the Cowboys-Panthers game. Every penalty against Dallas was a good call, and every call that went for Dallas was questionable if not outright horrible. It was ridiculous.

to their credit, there was 2 non-calls and one change (the smith catch at the end) that i thought were way off... that's the way the ball bounces...but i thought the fix was in man...

Did anyone see the way the Giants have played the last two games!? They were horrid! You could have gotten a bunch of girls from your town's Catholic high school and had done better than Eli. Unless he gets the hell out of New York and Cough-link, he's never going to be half as good as big brother Peyton.

Meg, i'm fairly confident it was because the 'chick would score 60 on the NFL network if they didn't move it... Maybe the deal is the pats have to keep it mildly competitive

Just curious, if the Giants win the game (which they probably won't), are the Pats fans going to call the Giants classless for not letting them win?

Gumbel is by far the least interesting play caller in sports. Pair him up with John Madden and my head would explode.

I think the 'Chair should take credit for this. After all, we all signed a petition to the NFL.

Boy, I tell ya... talk about media overhype with this friggin' game. It's ridiculous beyond belief. And get this, guys... in the New York City television market, it is set to broadcast on not one, not two, at least THREE and maybe FOUR channels on Saturday! Talk about absurd! Why in God's name does the NFL need TWO broadcast networks to simulcast the NFL Network feed? So neither CBS or NBC gets their stroked ego hurt they didn't show potential history through their airwaves? Give me a break. Here, it was originally to be simulcast on WWOR-TV, so now add WCBS-TV and WNBC-TV to the list besides those customers that can get NFL Network here. What's this all about? MONEY. Advertising dollars, that's what. You'd swear this is bigger than the actual Super Bowl here that's on ONE network, not three.

I think that this should be a good game. It's about time NFLN got their ducks in a row. Don't these networks know that the airwaves ARE public property!?
