Awesomely Awesome moments from...Pats/Bucs

I've decided I'm going to try and make the Awesomely Awesome Moments series a regular thing.
So tonight, I have the glorious luxury of flipping back and forth between Pats/Bucs and Sox/O's. The football game will be remotely interesting for about 1/2 hour, but I will still watch the whole thing, because that is how ridiculously football-starved I am. And also because Eric Bedard is pitching for Baltimore, meaning he will most likely eat the Sox for dinner. This guy has won seven straight starts. Dice-K is going for Boston, so this could be those of 2-hour, 1-0 quickies.
But like I said, tonight marks the return of that remarkable entity known as New England Patriots football, so one Sox loss won't be that big of a deal (unless the Yankees win, of course; they're in Cleveland, I'm not worried). I am ready for some football...
- Don Criqui and Randy Cross on play-by-play...I'm seriously thinking of switching to Gil and Geno on the radio, but I'm too comfortable on my couch. I'll mute the tv if I need to.
- Has anyone else seen the Gillette commercial with Thierry Henry, Tiger Woods and Roger Federer? That's some star power right there.
- Feels like 108 degrees in Tampa. Ewww.
- Tommy takes the field to start the game off. No Laurence Maroney in the starting lineup. I'm okay with that.
- 3 and out. Whatev.
- Criqui pronounces Danny Baugher (pronounced Bow-er) as Bogger. Ah, how I love unknown rookies. But then, he crosses the line. He proceeds to pronounce Bruschi as Brooshee. Wow, Don, wow. New Englanders everywhere are running at you with swords. No one messes with our Tedy Bear. I mean, no one.
- 3 and out for the Bucs. Nice work by the D. I do have trouble saying "nice work by the D" when Jeff Garcia is at QB though.
- Lots of Kevin Faulk so far. I'm comfortable with that; he'll be key to keeping some pressure off Maroney.
- Criqui has said four Patriots have "had a great camp" (Brady, Cassell, Welker, Gaffney). Way to hammer it home.
- Ellis Hobbs nearly picks one off. If you don't know this guy's name, remember it. He'll make you forget about Asante Samuel for as long as he holds out. Hobbs has got great instincts, good speed and plenty of sass.
- Two series for Tom, fine with me. Enter Matt Cutie Cassel. If there is a better-looking starter-backup QB tandem in the league, someone needs to find it for me. I have not seen Carson Palmer's backup, but I doubt he can top the collective hotness of these two.
- First catch of the day for Kelley Washington. He hasn't gotten many reps in camp, he'll need to prove himself in these four preseason games if his ass wants a job.
- Bam Childress makes a nice catch. This little receiver's been feisty, and was on the practice squad in 2006. Last year, Dick Enberg constantly referred to him as Brandon Childress and confused the hell out of me. He's a long shot to make the team this year.
- Going for it on 4th and 1? In the preseason? Love it. They get the 1st down.
- Sammy Morris scores the first touchdown of the night, rumbling into the end-zone. Sammy, oh how I love ya, how I love ya, my dear old Sammy...He's supposed to replace Corey Dillon. We'll see how he does in place of Clock Killa.
- Back to back sacks of Josh McCown force the Bucs to kick a field goal.
- Climax of Ridiculousness: They have six squares, Brady in the top left corner, the rest are filled with Pats fans with Brady jerseys on. Randy Cross feels it is necessary to point it which one is the real Brady (as if it's hard to tell): he draws an O over the real Brady on the telestrator and puts Xs on everyone else. "These are all faux Bradies," Cross concludes. I'm telling you, membership in the No Shit, Sherlock Hall of Fame is growing steadily.
- I just learned Matt Cassel recently got married, My night is borderline ruined. It's 10-7 at the half, in case you were wondering.
I'll end it there. There are much more pressing matters; the Sox are down 1-0 in the 7th, and CB Bucknor is calling a horrific game at home plate. I need to watch. Until another random sporting event, have an awesomely awesome weekend.
