Artie Owens (Arthur Gene Owens) was born on January 14, 1953 in Montgomery, Alabama. After going to high school at Stroudsburg (PA), Owens attended West Virginia University. Owens made his professional debut in the NFL in 1976 with the San Diego Chargers. He played for the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that 1979 was Artie Owens's best year, as he had 791 kick return yards.
