Another Celtics article...deal with it...
First and foremost a win is a win, it doesn't matter if it takes 4 games or 7, the Celtics are in the next round. Next order of business, get over this Kevin Garnett infatuation.
Its amazing how much credit KG gets for Paul Pierce having a productive season, Rajon Rondo maturing, The Celtics management signing and drafting able and productive role guys, filling the Gahhhden with a bunch of bandwagoners, ending the writers strike, giving us 6 more weeks of winter, and giving a black man a legitimate shot at winning the White House.
Where’s the love for the Truth, he’s the one who demanded help, he’s the captain, the leading scorer and believe it or not he’s the one that needs to step it up if he wants to bring Banner 17. Garnett is a great player, no doubt about that but the media makes it seem like he has a Midas touch he just touches the parquet floor and the Celtics suddenly play defense to impress him.
He’s like Fonz on Happy Days, Kramer on Seinfeld or Neil Patrick Harris on that show with the long title, they steal the show. They were supposed to be a regular cast member but the people adore them so then they are given more and more airtime. Same thing here, Pierce rebounded from an injury/paid vacation so the C’s could get Durant and had a great season, Ray Allen proven many a doubters wrong but no its all about KG. Every Celtics article I read its KG does this KG does that, give me a break.
But you can’t blame most people. KG is hard to dislike. He doesn’t catch stupid cases, he doesn’t have an arm full of tattoos, he rather be the bigger man and let Zaza Pachulia and Anthony Peeler punk him, then later let his frustrations out via ferocious jersey popping. He’s the apple of every basketball fans eye(sorry LeBron) so he gets away with a lot of things that others don’t. After your team loses, you can’t help but find yourself either rooting against your rival and/or rooting for guys like KG. If the Celts were to lose Game 7 it wouldn’t be KG’s fault, no not Kevin, it would be the damn Celtics who couldn’t get it done for him.
But its not about media attention, while at least Pierce for MVP nod would’ve shut me up, the thing is that even in the spotlight KG fails to impress me. For goodness sake, drop 40 in a game, take over a 4th quarter, hit a game winner do something. You can’t drive a car from the backseat.
