The Hoch's Nest: Could Crumpler Come to Seattle?

Alge Crumpler was just released by the Atlanta Falcons.

Crumpler had been with the Falcons since 2001, was selected to five Pro Bowls, and has 316 career catches for 4,212 yards and 35 touchdowns.

The 30-year-old Tight End was released along with six others, including defensive tackle Rod Coleman and quarterback Byron Leftwich for what seems to be salary-cap reasons.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said: "This is a difficult day for the entire organization. A number of these players have contributed to this organization on and off the field at a high level and we greatly appreciate their efforts. These decisions weren't easy, but we felt they were necessary to build a team in the long-term best interest of the Falcons and its fans."

A reunion in Seattle?
A reunion in Seattle?

What does this mean?

Well, the Seattle Seahawks need a Tight End. They made a splash yesterday by signing LG Mike Wahle to a 5-year contract, showing fans they are willing to make things happen. What if?

What if Crumpler signed with the Seahawks? The team would have upgraded their Offense immensely in just a few days. Why would he come here? Jim Mora was his head coach in Atlanta and is now in Seattle. Mora once said :

“He’s a not a real talker, but he’s a passionate player. He plays with great intensity, and he’ll make a play and he’ll jump and do the first down signal…and beat on his chest a little bit, but he’s a real leader. He has toughness, he walks the talk, he practices hard every day. If he drops a ball in practice, he’s libel to kick the ball 50 yards, he’s so pissed at himself. He really holds himself to a high standard. When your best players are your hardest workers and your most conscientious workers, and I think it kind of inspires everybody to try to reach their level, and that’s what Alge does.”

Crumpler knows the West Coast Offense. Crumpler has family in the area.

Why wouldn’t he want to be in Seattle?

Also, think about what that would do for the Hawks? You would have fixed two of the three major problems before the draft.

Pull the trigger Ruskell.

They need to stop worrying about the offense and do something about that defense.

Crumpler is 30...wants to win...is a pass catching TE...

Depending on the cash, i don't see why not...

Then again, i also hope the eagles look at him and let LJ go...

really though AOEH, its all contingent on cash. I agree that they hawks should look at defense first. But if crumpler can be obtained on the cheap, then why the hell not... There's a lot of teams that could use an athletic pass catching TE though (its an NFL fad)

No doubt that he will be an asset. I just gotta wonder about his value on a per dollar basis. He really saw a downfall in performance this past season.

You would think that with the QB merry-go-round in Atlanta this season, he would have had a great season. He didn't.

Maybe age is starting to catch up with him.

I think that is has to do with the fact that he had no consistent QB.

Their Defense is young. The CB will get better. They were better from the year previous, and as I said, the Line needs to be fixed.

Hopefully someone solid in the draft.

Oh yeah....darn it. I still think he is not worth it. I'm still locked on Eric Johnson of the Saints, or trading for Daniel Graham from the Broncos. The last resort is draft Fred Davis.

In the News

The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Boston Red Sox in the playoffs for the first time since 1986, snapping an 11 game losing streak. It took 12 innings to do it, as Mike Napoli led the Halos to a 5-4 victory. Erick Aybar hit the game winning shot to score Napoli, and Nap was held accountable for 3 of the Angels' runs and 3 of their RBI's. Josh Beckett wasn't the postseason man he usually is, as he only lasted 5 innings, surrendering 4 runs and 9 hits. Jacoby Ellsbury also made history, becoming the first player in postseason history to hit a three-run single. He did it in the 3rd inning, as he hit a pop-up while there was some miscommunication involving Torii Hunter and Howie Kendrick in shallow center field. The Red Sox currently lead the series 2-1.
