The Chad Johnson Saga

Over the past couple of months Chad Johnson has made it public knowledge that he wants out of Cincinnati. He’s even went so far as to state that he would not participate in strength and conditioning workouts if he had to in order to land himself on a new squad.

Although Marvin Lewis has said numerous times that Chad isn’t going anywhere, this whole thing is very reminiscent of the T.O. fiasco in Philadelphia back in 2005. What does that mean? It means that Chad Johnson is going to be traded before draft day most likely so we need to take a look at the teams he could possibly be traded to!

Oakland Raiders

With the acquisitions of Javon Walker, DeAngelo Hall and the 4th pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders landing Chad Johnson would be huge. Scratch that, it would be monumental. The Raiders fan base would likely have collective aneurisms -- albeit happy ones.

They would have to hope JaMarcus Russell could manage to get Ocho Cinco and Javon the ball though, but seriously, taking a look at their team coming right out of last season and looking at it now, I don’t think anyone will be complaining.

Philadelphia Eagles

After losing out on signing Randy Moss last month the Eagles are still in desperate need for a #1 receiver. They showed last year that their offense can still be potent without one but landing Chad Johnson would transform them back into the old Eagles we all know and love. Not to mention it would make the NFC East so competitive that they might just have to make it it’s own league.

Dallas Cowboys

Terrell Owens is perhaps the only person in Dallas who does not want Ocho Cinco.
Terrell Owens is perhaps the only person in Dallas who does not want Ocho Cinco.

Definitely the most intriguing option. The Cowboys offense would immediately transform into the best in the NFL heading into the next season. But with two very needy ball catchers on the same squad there would be a definite opportunity for drama. When T.O. went to Dallas by himself people were watching the sidelines since Week 1, waiting for him to explode. Although he did have his problems, he never had a Philadelphia-esque episode. Because of their similar desire to get the ball I think Terrell Owens is the only person in Dallas hoping the Johnson trade doesn’t happen.

Looking at the Cowboys cap space and spending amounts, it would appear difficult for them to sign Chad Johnson however if Jerry Jones wants it to happen, it will. Let’s just hope they don’t land both Johnson and McFadden because then the rest of the league will just have to forfeit next years games.

Washington Redskins

Jason Campbell showed us last year that he has what it takes to be the starting QB. Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El had great seasons but are in no way number one receivers. The Redskins acquiring Chad Johnson would assure them one of the most potent offenses in the NFL. Plus, it will give Clinton Portis a couple less players to worry about in the 'box'.

Chad Johnson is giving the thumbs up to be traded.

Cincinnati's Fate

Johnson leaving the Cincinnati Bengals would be disastrous. It would cripple the team more than it already has been with decline of Rudi Johnson and the release of Chris Henry. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, as great of a receiver as he’s proven himself to be won’t be nearly as effective with no Chad Johnson on the field. Ocho Cinco’s departure would effectively put the Bengals organization into a rebuilding state in which it would take a year or two to recover from on the offensive side of the ball.

However as with most divorces it seems it might have to happen -- and it has to get worse before it can better; for both parties.

The whole "Demanding a Trade" thing is getting old....Don't trade him, let him play Arena Football and look stupid.

I'm glad you realize the NFC East is the best division in football...and yeah, The Eagles + C. Johnson = Super Bowl and Donovan can cement his spot as the greatest Black QB ever and earn himself a nice spot amongst the greats in due time...

seriously though, after False Prophet's little hissy fit I find it hard to believe that people don't think the eagles are any good...

Exhibit A: They turn one of their stupid games into a win and they're in the playoffs...Green Bay, Chicago, Jersey A...

Exhibit B: They played the hardest schedule in the NFL...no joke, opponent winning % highest amongst all teams

Exhibit C: McNabb is back...the guy is a phenomenal player who needs just the right amount of play calling and running the ball to win...He's no longer capable of running all the time, but he never was a Steve McNair QB, he also preferred the pass...

Exhibit D: He owns dallas...

Yeah I think the only knock against Philly last year was the inconsistency. Also, it's amazing what McNabb did with the receiver's he had last year -- and Westbrook is probably my second favorite running back besides DeAngelo Williams.

But even if they just pick up a receiver in the draft I think they've got a great shot at making the playoffs. The only thing is is their in the incredibly, incredibly, uberly tough NFC East.

but even in the worst years of some teams, those teams will do ok in the division, it very rare to see a 6-0 division run...

I mean, the consensus Conference best cowboys got beat by the missing-the-playoffs eagles late in the season...and the cowboys sputtered ever since then...

I don't see them going 1st round w/ a receiver...Reid hates it and their successes include...well...they include freddie mitchell...

They've reached the 3 year plan with McNabb, which started in 2007...2008 represents a major push (as seen with the Moss Move) and 2009 will either be transitional, a last gasp for the end meaning that if 2008 isn't successful, McNabb is gone (as his contract hasn't been in guaranteed money since 2007) and if it is successful they have no intention of paying him ridiculous amounts of cash until 2011...

Lito Shepperd has yet to be moved, so the Eagles (who have, i think, 10 or 11 picks in the draft) have some chips to move as I don't see them making that many picks...and getting the best receiver in the draft isn't gonna help you win this year...

The backup plan is a high round receiver, but the ideal plan probably includes the likes of Roy Williams and Chad Johnson...

Well, the front runners are the Redskins and the Eagles. The Cowboys will always be rumored to be front runners because of Jerry Jones. If Johnson could pick between the Redskins or the Eagles, I think he'd take the Eagles. And I actually want him to go to Philadelphia. Eagles/Pats S.B. rematch!

its almost the ideal spot...things go well, you get McNabb and Johnson in a TO-style offense for a few years

worst case scenario it blows up and the eagles cut Johnson and McNabb loose, Westbrook is on a downward spiral and the eagles are rebuilding anyways...

Plus, if the Pats and Eagles Rematch, Andy Reid will have already ducktaped Johnson's mouth and shown thousands of hours of game film of Rodney Harrison to McNabb...

Donovan has succeeded...it's just a matter of degrees. If he'd had decent receivers all along, who knows? He did well even when he didn't have a great corps. It seems that Reid is okay with the receivers as they are. If he wasn't, he'd have already gotten better ones, right? Johnson in Philly would be an interesting thing. He'd definitely pump some new life into the offense. And I bet Westbrook and McNabb both would be thrilled to share the offensive numbers.
