JuTMSY4 feels that Carlos Beltran was a little premature when stating that the Mets were the teams to beat in the N.L. East.

This is the 21st edition of the popular Meet the Users series, where The Beast will be interviewing a particular ArmchairGM user. The goal for the series is to allow all users to know each other better. The 21st edition goes to JuTMSY4.

1. How did you learn about ArmchairGM?

Well, about two years ago I was at work, bored out of my mind and looking for some Phillies Info and I checked ESPN. Naturally, after getting bored with their info I went over to the message boards to read what was going on. I became a pretty frequent commenter and then I read a spam message from, what I assumed was Dan. Turns out it wasn’t him, but it definitely was an AGMer. I joined up, posted a poor article and history was made. So now another site got to feel the wrath of my comments. The nice thing is, you can strike up a discussion about anything sports-related on this site.

2. The Eagles just signed Asante Samuel and appear to be interested in Randy Moss. What do you make of this activity? Can the Iggles make a run at the Super Bowl in '08?

The Philadelphia Eagles are making, what looks like, the right moves to put themselves in place for next season. If you look at each Eagles game individually, they played like a 10-6 game, but they had a few bad breaks (look at the Packers game). It’s the NFL , it happens.

Samuel represents a move to keep two solid corners on the field and was really a plan to make Lito Sheppard a bargaining chip. That chip will be used to acquire a receiver, most likely Larry Fitzgerald. Apparently, Eagles insiders are suggesting this deal is just being held up by Arizona’s desires in the trade (Sheppard, a first round pick and something else) and they already have Fitz’s contract worked out.

Moss was the backup plan, which is now gone. The way I see it, they’re set to either give McNabb one last shot or let him walk/trade him next year. Of course I think this team is good enough with some extra pieces, but otherwise, they’re just another mediocre NFL team. But McNabb’s got one more run left in him. Otherwise, looks like he could be headed west.

3. Carlos Beltran recently said that the Mets are the team to beat in the NL East. So who will win the East: the Mets or Phillies?

I completely understand Beltran’s comments until he mentioned Jimmy Rollins. J-Roll never called out Carlos, so why does Beltran have to? If it riles up your team, that’s fine, but if you gotta call out someone, I think it’s weak. I mean, just listen to Pedro or Johan Santana, those guys have it right, but Beltran, perhaps one of the most overpaid players in the league, should be prepared to put up. Besides, Jimmy says the Phillies will win 100 games. And I’m tempted to believe him.

4. You have lived in or near Philadelphia and Boston. Which group of sports fans do you find more annoying?

Can I really tell you Philadelphia fans are more annoying? Boston fans, per capita, have some of the most uninformed fans in the country. It also comes with the territory of being good/popular. In 2004, I remember seeing Eagles fans with the same issues, and the Yankees have this perennially. But there’s a big difference. Even before the 2004 Red Sox Boston never quite had the woe is me mentality that Philadelphia has. Even when they were down 0-3 to the Yankees, I remember hearing Boston fans tell me, it ain’t over and it wasn’t. On the contrary, Philly fans always think, what’s it gonna be this time. I mean, go back to your interview with Christof and observe. So yeah, if you hate people who have feelings of entitlement, then Boston fans are the most annoying.

5. You are known for your Who is the Best Commenter feature. Who do you feel is the best commenter in ArmchairGM history?

Eh? Ever? Well, besides me, I guess there’s a few, but I have a general rule: Those who comment the most tend to be complete blowhards and talk too much (often without thinking), and I’m definitely one of them.

BigPPup, Tmil42 (sometimes the numbers don’t lie!), AfraidofEdHochuli, Oh No Romo, LastRow, DrPatriot, TayTay24, The Pip, Falcon02520 and I am a CPCP to name a few.

But the best? Well

Heh, Pean

Amazing answers, JuT. Great article as always, Beast.

Jut, I agree with you about #4. Definitely... I've seen uninformed Red Sox fans on here, in person, and everywhere.

I'm saying this as a Red Sox fan. I feel bad for the people who are true Red Sox fans who just meet new sports fans who aren't Red Sox fans.

Holy Shi...Crap... I thought that I was the last guy in the top 10 who had yet to be interviewed. JuT, this interview is well overdue and well deserved...

I somewhat agree with you that Boston fans are (in general) annoying, but then again so are Philly fans. What I mean is that arrogance of fans always being homers. "The MVP has to be Howard... Cole Hamels deserves the Cy Young more than anyone... Brian Westbrook was most valuable to the Eagles so he should be the MVP... The Eagles will win 14 games next season..." Ya get my point? To me, hanging around friends and co-workers, this gets annoying for one reason...

Because they don't back it up with good reasoning. I don't care if they say it, they just need to have something behind it... It is just like if I were to say "Peyton Manning sucks"... ok, then what? It means nothing unless I have some reason why...

btw, thanks for saying I was a good commenter :)

Its Apples to Oranges I suppose...

You know what really gets me...Eagles fans know a lot more about football than Pats fans...i mean, the only time i realize someone liked the Patriots was when they won a superbowl...

But the inverse applies to Phillies fans and Red Sox fans...

Hockey and Basketball might as well be pushes...

by the way...what the hell's up with the 76ers?

Freaking 76ers are going nuts... I haven't watched any of their games live, but it looks like Miller and Iguodala are really playing solid. They're beating pretty good teams too.

But, yeah, there are way too many Pats and Sox fans who have just jumped on the bandwagon, and the posers tend to be the biggest problem with Boston fans.

But I think you hit it on the head when you said that Philly fans are always pesimistic, while Boston fans "keep the faith", especially in 2004. Boston fans have always felt the need to stay positive, but the true fans are really all still bitter about our losing days. It's more like "us against the world" redemption than anything else.

Ah - but that's why Boston fans are more annoying. Phillies fans have nothing to crow about right now. Just wait - if the Phils win a playoff series...we'll be downright insufferable!

good article and solid answers JuT.

The problem I see with some, not all, Sox fans are they have only been fans recently and just like the success. Where were they in 1998 when the Sox averaged 28,577 a game at Fenway? I know the diehards have always been fans but to me their just seems to be too many fairweather fans. I guess that goes along with a team winning 2 titles in 4 years.

Speaking as a Yankee fan, there are just as many Yankee fans that did this as well. Where were they in the days of Mel Hall and Kevin Maas....

JuTM is one of the first commenters on my articles and has answered Armchair GM questions many times. I agree that Rollins has too much class to be calling out players. He does his talking on the field. Even though he predicted the Phillies would win last year I don't recall him degrading any other players or teams.

Yeah, i thought that was lame, especially from beltran...the mets have a few players i hate: Pedro (boston-era), Reyes (temper tantrums) and now Beltran...

I don't really hate the team...but some people say/do some really stupid things...

To me, its just classless to call out a player like that...what's the point? Beltran doesn't even know what plagiarism is ; - )

Yeah, JuT's taste in commenters lacks a little, eh?

Anyway, next time KD and I have a conversation about pretzels see if we'll invite you!

Pat Burrell could run for Mayor of Philly unopposed and still finish 6th. And that's AFTER he wins this theoretical MVP!
