Okay so we are running a little behind schedule with this particular installment, but that’s what happens when you’re suffering from a concussion, things are a little slow and a little hazy. But don’t you worry I can assure you that the game is still tight. Yeah, that’s right. Here we play injured and don’t believe in making excuses. That being said, let’s get this latest edition of Walker’s Rants kicked off.

Chris Paul is nothing but the truth, but his team will let him down …

Phil Jackson was right, Kobe’s teammates did quit on him …

The Celtics inability to do anything on the road will prevent them from winning a championship …

When the hell did the Rays get good? And why is nobody talking about it? ...

Hear that? It’s the sound of the Trojan Empire crumbling …

Okay, so maybe Dallas won’t win a Stanley Cup …

But, I can guarantee that Philly won’t win a Cup either, and that’s fine with me …

NFL Power Rankings are the dumbest idea I have ever heard of, and anyone who pays attention to them are just and stupid …

The men who murdered Sean Taylor should be punished to the fullest extent of the law …

O.J. Mayo took money … Really? Are you surprised? ...

LeBron James disrespecting his mama? That’s not cool …

Concussions are no fun …

Adding another ACC game to the football schedule is good, but it will raise my damn tickets prices …

Congrats to the UVA’s men’s lacrosse team for advancing to the second round …

Roger Goodell is a sham …

The NBA must increase the age requirements for their rookies …

If you’re in Austin, Texas, go check out the National Sweet 16 for rugby …

The Pistons are the best team in the Eastern Conference …

The Chicago Bulls need to hire Avery Johnson …

He's certainly polarizing

Its one thing to be hard lined...but in the case of suspending guys for character issues when they have no record is pushing it...

Let's face it, for 9 outta 10 jobs if you get arrested for DUI or public drunkenness or what have you, no one will know

In the NFL, its news and they wanna suspend you...

If it happens over and over...it'll effect your performance, i understand that...

And as far as spygate...its laughable that when a player does something dumb, he's ripped up right away...but when an NFL team cheats to win, the league idles until the public is sick of it and a senator steps in...

Goodell is creating somewhat of a circus here. Didn't a coach in Dallas get suspended for 5 games due to HGH, but Spygate garners no suspension what so ever.

The last thing the NFL wants is to shine more light on Spygate. They made a big fuss and handed out fines. That's enough, right? And it doesn't even matter anymore. All the rings & trophies will remain with the Patriots. No matter what Arlen Specter has to say.

I mean, what do you want him to do? He already fined Belichick and the Pats pretty heavily back when this first came out... Specter was pinning all of his hopes on Walsh's "evidence", and it turns out it was nothing that the league didn't know about all along. Setting my Patriots fanhood aside and speaking as a football fan in general, it's time to just let it go. Walsh was the last hurrah, and he didn't have anything. Time to move on and look forward to next season.

There is really not much he can do at this point. The wrong decision was made when he levied his punishment to begin with. You really have no ground to tell anyone to "get over it" though. It wasn't your favorite team that went 15-1 in the regular season (and in the process beat the Pats) to come back and lose in the AFC championship to "the Genius). Only to find out he was cheating the whole time. I have seen several solid SB contending Steelers teams fall victim to the machine that is the NE Patriots. BB will never live this down in the eyes of some. There are just too many questions that can't be answered.

Davis - I just thought that Goodell's handling of Spygate was a bit wishy-washy. He issued fines. He has suspended players for off the field infractions - for things that don't really affect games. Here we have a case where he clearly felt that a coach (not a player) had done something on the field that affected games (perhaps Super Bowls!?) - and he fines him??? Where's the suspension? Even one game would have been more of a show. And taking away a low-level draft pick? Ooooh. I'll bet Belichick spent an hour just laughing about the whole thing.

See, this is why everyone (Pats fans & everyone else) needs to move on. We don't know how much it added, and whether the Steelers would have won if BB hadn't spied. I understand the bitterness, but dragging it on forever doesn't solve anything. It's not like we can forfeit the games. It's not like we can retroactively give other teams Super Bowl championships. The best thing for everybody is to go forward and make sure it doesn't happen again. And that goes for any team, not just the Patties, because if you don't think other teams were doing this, you're just being naive.

and Davis is right...we don't know how much it added (or subtracted)...sadly, this works on both sides and the end result will be proving a negative...which we can't do...

This side of taking away rings (hahaha) there isn't much else to be done and it would require a cataclysmic issue to do that...

That being said, unless that happens the bulk of the damage has been done...when someone talks about the great Pats "Dynasty" Spygate will come up by the naysayers and it will always be tainted...

You guys are complaining that there should have been a suspension, but really, what good does it do to suspend a coach? He can still run the team through other coaches who know the system just as well.

It's not like suspending a player. A player can't just call in and give someone orders on how to do his job. A coach can do that easily. Taking away a draft pick is more substantial because it actually takes away from the team. You know, the players who are on the field playing the game.

I understand fans of other teams being mad because the Pats did cheat. I don't even care if they talk shit about Belichick over this because he deserves it. But Davis is right that anyone who thinks this doesn't go on with other teams is being very naive. Shit on Belichick and make the jokes because he was the one who was dumb enough to get caught, but don't say he was the only one doing this or say that he "stole" your championship.

BobbyJim, everything you say is true. However, Goodell is about image. His image and the league's image - ask Pacman Jones. Suspending Belichick for six games...eight games...that would have sent a message. The NFL does not condone cheating. And the coaches and management are not above the random guidelines RG has established. It just seems that there was almost an acceptance of BB's conduct: "OK, Bill - just don't do it again, you rascal." And he most likely isn't the only coach to do this. But not many other coaches are as 'likeable' as Belichick. I think after his conduct during the past few seasons, many people saw the Spygate incident as a comeuppance. Then he lost the Super Bowl...Justice is served?

Bobbyjim don't get me wrong here. I don't think he stole my championship. I was just saying how spygate changed how we view the recent history of the league. Instead of knowing that the Pats came up with a better gameplan, I am left to wonder if they would have won without cheating. Do I know? of course not. For all I know the Pats could have easily won without cheating or maybe they weren't cheating in that game at all. My point was that it puts things like that into question. Questions that we will never know the answers too...until BB writes his tell all memiors.

The Trojan Empire will survive...money talks...

NFL Power Rankings - totally agree. Could be interested as a talking point, but I wouldn't take it much further than that.

Sean Taylor's murderers - could not agree more. Although life in prison is pretty serious.

O.J. Mayo took money - nobody should be surprised. Much ado about nothing. Honestly...does anyone think this is an isolated case?

NBA age requirements - I agree, but I don't blame the kids for taking the money. They're just doing what any of us would do.

Free agency didn't work at first either. It just seems to me that this cannot be legal. They can't deny women, they can't deny african americans, they can't deny a player based on nationality or religion, but somehow they get away with denying a player based on age even though he may be of legal age. Something stinks. Once one owner gets involved it's over. The reason Clarrett lost is because no one wanted him. Once you have someone that wants to play and someone willing to pay him who is going to say they can't. Hope this made sense.

Nice work, BigPPup. But …

1. Because they have home-court advantage, the Celtics CAN win the NBA Championship without winning a game on the road.

2. The Trojan Empire is the USC football program and it is not crumbling. The USC basketball team isn’t an empire as much as a very small mud hut and it is, indeed, crumbling.

3. NFL Power Rankings are not official. They are meant to inspire discussion on the value of each team. They are conversation ignitions and that is neither dumb, nor stupid.

4. I’m not sure that LeBron James disrespected his mother as much as he loudly told her not to run into the middle of a fracas between huge, young men. That sounds like a guy protecting his Mom more than disrespecting her.

5. You are right. Concussion are no fun … but who said they were?

6. Roger Goodell is doing a great job!

7. Perhaps the current age limits for NBA eligibility contributed to the O.J. Mayo mess. He would have got his money (which he was going to take one way or the other) and USC would be in no trouble if he weren’t forced to spend one meaningless year in college.

To be honest what your doing is spinning the situation. You and I both know that is not how you should talk to mom. That's all I'm gonna say about the issue, it really isn't our business anyways. I'm going to be minused for saying this, but here it goes:

The NFL will go into a lockout after the 2012 season (when the CBA expires). There are a crapload of issues that need to be resolved. There needs to be a Rookie salary cap, better compensation for former players, more detailed medical evaluation of concussions, rules for concussions, number of games in the regular season, and potentially a salary cap debate.

However, it is not Goodell's fault that this will happen. Instead, it is the fault of Paul Tagliabue for making long term sacrafices to improve the game in the short term.

The NFL is one of the best run businesses in the nation, but it is on the verge of collapsing.

I'm not even sure Tagliabue is necessarily to blame. The problems cited are things that could have been addressed over the years (even back to the Rozelle era), and owners, current and former players and the commissioner should all share the blame. They share the spoils, let's expect them to share the more unpleasant aspects of the NFL.

1. I know they're meeting on this stuff. I just doubt it'll get fixed before the CBA expires. 2. The CBA is, put simply, the contract between the two separate organizations, the National Football League, and the National Football League Players Union that gives the players the right to play for the league with a shitload of rules. No CBA=No labor deal=no NFL. Also, it's legally necessary so that they don't violate their Anti-trust agreement that allows them to hold a de facto monopoly on their industry
