Giants are number 1 -----in disrespect

It didn't take any talent on my part, but I've watched every Super Bowl ever played. I've seen all the hype and all the predictions. I've never seen a team get less respect than this year's Giants. I swear, if they win the Super Bowl, they will be picked to lose the next week. The last time a team was even close to being disrespected this much was the '69 Jets. I remember the Raiders and the Chiefs getting very little respect, but after all they were playing the National Football League Champion Packers. You know Lombardi and the boys. The field goal that won the NFC for the G-Men had hardly hit the ground when they were made a 14 point underdog. I hope it's a good game because after watching all of them, I think about 5 of them were. No offense Patriots fans, but I hope the Giants prove the so callled experts wrong again. Even if they don't let me be the first to say, the Giants are one damn good football team.

Moment of truth here:

This "respect"/"disrespect" b.s is nothing more than media driven hyped tired cliches that serves absolutely nothing other than to promote "the next big game". It is NFL's version of Don King's "Only in America" rhetoric of "David vs Goliath" for every "fight of the century".

The Giants played a damn good honest game against the Patriots last time. Anyone who knows anything about the NFL already "respects" this team.

That would be the Seahawks as far as disrespecting. The thing with the Giants is that they win ugly, gritty, defensive battles. It's not pretty football so to speak. That's why they don't get the respect they deserve.

I thought you were going to say number one in disrespecting opponents. I'm tired of the Giants talking crap constantly, and hitting guys after plays are over and somehow getting away with it. They beat the Cowboys fair and square, but there were four late hit penalties in that game that did not get called.

Oh, and the Giants weren't made underdogs by sports experts, they were made underdogs by Vegas casinos looking to encourage gambling. It has nothing to do with disrespect. Just shut up.

Gee, I can't remember the last time a team faced an unstoppable juggernaut in the Super Bowl and didn't get any respect...

Oh, and stop with the hyperbole. No team has ever been this disrespected? You can't be serious. How about the Bears last year, who weren't given a snowball's chance in hell of winning. How about the 2001/2002 Patriots who people said only got the Superbowl on a BS tuck call, and were supposed to get crushed by the Rams. There have been plenty of Superbowl teams just this disrespected, and maybe more. Stop being such a crybaby victim.

Being picked to lose isn't disrespect, especially when you're facing a team that has won ALL EIGHTEEN GAMES THEY'VE PLAYED.

And the spread is determined by gamblers. The casinos and sports books set the spread in order to split bets evenly, so half the people bet for New York, half for New England. It isn't anyone's predictions. Why do you think the spread is sometimes 2.5 or 4.5 points?

I really haven't seen any reputable people disrespecting the Giants. They might respect the Patriots more. But that's probably because the Pats are 18-0, which is kind of a big deal.

actually raw...you could argue that its disrespect...maybe...because the team is 18-0...

but that's if they played the packers...

They're playing the giants, and I'm not an expert or anything, but i think the pats beat them earlier this season...

sooo....I'm guessing its fair to suggests the pats could win again...

I'm happy with either team winning. Yes, I am a Patriots fan, and yes, I am serious. I may be a Pats fan, but I'm also a fan of the underdog. Watching the Giants win would be a helluva shocker.

Most importantly though, to me, it's not just about the game. There's a whole lot more to it. Eli Manning has been downgraded so much, you'd think he was the player Mike Gundy was talking about. It'd be great to see Eli and the Giants win the Superbowl, but it would also be great to see the Patriots make history: to be the first team in history to become 19-0. They've already broken so many records, including being the first team to ever go 16-0, never mind 19-0.

The thing about the Patriots right now is that you either love them or hate them. You can't sit on the fence here, which ironically enough, is kinda what I'm doing for this game.

I hope the game turns out to be as close, entertaining, and exciting as the last game of this year's regular season.
