Dawg Blawg: Browns Fire Grantham, Anderson rumors, and more

Grantham Gone: The Browns took the first step into what will be a long crazy off-season.  After having a defense ranked 30 th in the league and probably keeping them out of the playoffs, the Browns fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham today.  Cleveland’s defense gave up 382 points this season, a total higher then the last two years.

Chudzinski re-signed: With the Ravens showing interest in hiring Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski as head coach, the Browns were quick to re-sign him to a deal which would keep him on Lake Erie till 2011.  This signing could also be a hint as to a possible extension of head coach Romeo Crennel’s contract.

Browns talking to Romeo, Anderson: After leading the Beloved Brownies to a 10-6 record and one game short of the playoffs, Phil Savage said the Browns, who have already re-signed Chudzinski through 2011 said both Romeo Crennel, and Scappoose, Oregon’s favorite son (Derek Anderson) to long term extensions.  Savage feels Anderson has done enough in one season to secure a job as franchise QB of the Browns.  When asked about Brady Quinn’s future in Cleveland, he said the Browns now have “a distinct advantage over other teams,” having two quality quarterbacks on their roster.

Fun Fact: With the Browns needing more cash to resign Jamal Lewis, Derek Anderson, and Romeo Crennel, they should take a page out of Cleveland Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro’s book and sell the naming rights to their stadium. (Shapiro sold the naming rights to Progressive Auto Insurance Thursday, the field will now be called Progressive Field, instead of Jacobs Field)  But that’s a horrible name for a stadium, so if the Browns chose to rename the creatively named Cleveland Browns Stadium, they should at least pick a cool sponser.
