Back at school for senior year, couldn't be happier.

Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up. These are the best days of my life. The only thing that matters is just following my heart, and eventually I'll finally get it right.

21 is just a number. It's what you make of your life that defines how much you've lived.

Queen of AGM. Because the Linebacker said so.

Brandon Moss Is Straight Cash, Homey: Red Sox Win Season Opener 6-5

Yes, you read that correctly. There are now two awesome athletes in Boston with the last name Moss. His fame may only last for the next 24 hours or so, but outfielder Brandon Moss made his name known to Red Sox Nation and baseball fans everywhere by coming up huge in the Boston Red Sox's thrilling 6-5 win over the Oakland Athletics in the MLB season opener at the Tokyo Dome. If the World Champs wanted to start the season with some excitement, mission accomplished.

Down 4-3 in the top of the ninth inning, the 24-year-old Moss clubbed his first Major League homer off Huston Street to tie the game at four. Moss was not even scheduled to play in the game, but J.D./Nancy Drew couldn't go with tightness in his back (surprise, surprise). Moss is a promising prospect in the outfield; he and David Murphy (who was traded to the Texas Rangers last year with Kason Gabbard and another prospect to acquire Eric Gagne) were the two "other" outfield prospects the Sox had in addition to Jacoby Ellsbury. He has a very good arm, nice swing, and can hit to all fields. Most weren't expecting much from him coming out of spring training, but he's certainly made an impact early on.

The rest of the offense came courtesy of Manny Ramirez, whose two-run double in the top of the tenth inning put Boston ahead for good. Manny had four RBIs on the day. Moss also notched a two-out RBI single to give the Sox their first lead of the game in the sixth inning.

The pitching was a little suspect, especially late. Hometown hero Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched five innings, allowing two hits and two runs, striking out six batters and walking five. Obviously, control was an issue; Matsuzaka threw 95 pitches and just 51 for strikes. Hopefully, it's just some rust and nerves. Speaking of rust and nerves, no one looked more nervous to me than Jonathan Papelbon, of all people. The closer allowed three hits, a run and a walk in the tenth inning; Oakland would have tied the game at 6 if not for a base-running gaffe by Emil Brown. But the Papelbon got out of the jam with two on and two out, when Kurt Suzuki grounded out to end the game. Papelbon didn't have the usual fire in his eyes, for some reason; let's hope nothing is wrong with him physically.

But, as always, a win's a win. Jon Lester starts tomorrow. Someone in the Red Sox organization needs to have Brandon and Randy Moss meet one another.

THANK GOD BASEBALL IS FINALLY HERE!

I think Heinsohn actually had a good point last night, Doc was tweaking with the lineups and getting a good look at Sam Cassell and Eddie House in the game together. If a few regular season losses get us prepared for the playoffs, I'm all for it.

You know what else Heinsohn did...bitch about the refs all night...I usually just snicker at him when he pulls this shit, but when its your own fav team (and I'm not much of a basketball fan), it gets annoying...

He may be beloved in boston, but he's a god damned joke for the rest of us...a fraudulent commentator if i've ever heard one...

I just think he still harbors hatred for Billy Cunningham

Fraudulent? I couldn't disagree more. Tommy is out there, saying exactly what he thinks about everything. Is he a hometown commentator? Absolutely, but he's never afraid to speak his mind.

Its not being a hometown commentator, its being jaded

Hometown guys talk about the home team, understand the team and the game...Jerry Remy (for you bostonites) does this fairly well

Tommy is utterly jaded, refused to see the celtics doing wrong and laments over officiating in every game the Cs have at least one foul in...

He may be speaking his mind but it's utterly unprofessional and completely pointless

Totally agree on the 'glad baseball is back' front. Maybe JD Drew refusing to sign with the Phils is a good thing after all. Glad he's someone else's problem.

I should send the AGM Linebacker on him. Then he'll really know what tightness in the back feels like.

10am :) I had class until 1:40, so I came back and watched the 10th. I should be able to watch the whole game tomorrow morning. It's funny...the US goes to Daylight Savings Time before London does, so for a few we're four hours ahead of East Coast time instead of five. We jump ahead one hour in the next couple of weeks, I think.

Then sweep the Divisional Series and ALCS, and lose Game 7 of the World Series on a walk-off home run. That would be the equivalent. Seriously, I think everyone's been drinking too much of the Kool Aid. They could possibly miss the playoffs, which no one seems to reaize. I think Cleveland and Detroit are in, and the Yankees are better than everyone thinks. The AL East will go down to the wire. It's not a given they're making the playoffs by any means. As much as I love Buchholz and Lester, I don't trust them yet (I'd much rather have a healthy Schilling). If any of the other starters get hurt, who knows who'll be pitching? There's a ton of promise, but a ton of uncertainty too.

A little part of me died when Ellsbury switched agents and became represented by Boras. In this case, JD Drew got Mossed (kind of). The front office and Francona will let Drew take his licks, no matter how bad it gets.

A week from today, Moss will be back in Pawtucket. MLB allowed each team three roster exemptions for the trip, so when they return to the states each team must cut three players. Sox aren't going to carry six outfielders, so he's gone.

Well, let's see.. the Red Sox got Manny Ramirez, JD Drew, Jacoby Ellsbury, Coco Crisp, and Brandon Moss. 5 outfielders? I don't think so. But eventually, I think they're going to do something about Coco Crisp (probably trade him... soon).

Please do your homework before you try and debate me, Romi. You should know better.

The Red Sox' fifth outfielder is Bobby Kielty, Romi. Moss was activated because they needed a lefty bat to replace Drew and Sean Casey.

And I had this discussion last week with Meg, I believe. There is a reason why Coco hasn't (and won't) be traded which I'm not going to get into again. Let's just say there are more than a few people in the Sox organization who feel someone isn't as good as he's been hyped up to be, and Coco is insurance just in case.

Kielty didn't make the trip, correct?

And Ramirez is in the final year of his contract (correct?)...

I will say, i'm not positive about your throughts regarding ellsbury being a bust...While that may be true, the red sox survived a few poor performances last year and still won the world series...

I think you're better bet is they've decided to keep Crisp for: A) Ramirez leaving next year/taking off his usual 30-40 games, B) JD Drew getting injured and C) keeping crisp as an ideal #4 outfielder and strong defensive replacement...

Kielty did not make the trip; he actually has an out clause in his contract that he can leave the team at the end of spring training and sign with another club if he is not added to the active roster.

Ramirez is in the final year of his contract; there are two $20 million club options, both of which Manny has said he expects the Sox to pick up.

There's no reason to trade Coco unless a blaring need appears by the mid-season deadline. He's a damn good insurance policy. He appeared a bit unhappy in spring training initially, but he's kept his mouth relatively shut since.

KD, just curious to know who/how many people in the Red Sox org are iffy on Ellsbury and where you got your info?

Not caught up in any hype...just think after six years Moss deserves to have a roster spot on a major league team. If he can play well in the middle of all that hullabaloo in Japan. I do understand Trizz being wary of Moss after just one good game but he did come through twice in the game with RBI's.

I might be going overboard saying what I did about Moss but there are cases of players belonging in the majors and taking six years like Wade Boggs. He hit over .300 his last five minor league seasons but hit only about 9 home runs in his six years so his lack of power may have hurt him. I do need to be more careful before I say Moss deserved to be on a roster.
