2007 All-Fantasy Offensive Team

We all love the big game - 3 touchdowns, 150+ yards on the ground, and a whole lot of fantasy points. Nevertheless, when it comes to building a championship-caliber fantasy team, these types of games can distort our opinions about which players are truly fantasy studs. High highs are great, but when that player turns around and provides minimal fantasy output, it can make any owner want to pull his hair out. So, when the dust settles, who are the actual players who carried fantasy teams this season? Objectively looking at the stats and fantasy points, some may be very surprised. In the world of fantasy, consistency is key - let's take a look at the consistent fantasy producers from the 2007 season, and subsequently, those players who can be dubbed true fantasy all-stars.

QB: Tom Brady, NE - Was there really any question as to who the top fantasy quarterback would be this season? There is no doubt that Brady, as well as the rest of his Patriots teammates, had a truly magical campaign in 2007. To put things into perspective, this year, Brady bettered the remarkable '06 fantasy season of San Diego RB LaDainian Tomlinson by nearly 50 fantasy points in most standard-scoring leagues, and nearly matched the amazing '04 fantasy campaign of Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning. Four times this season, the most for any fantasy offensive producer, Brady sat atop all fantasy point-getters in a given week, and ranked at least in the Top 5 on four other occasions. His only downtime throughout the season came in Week 15 (unfortunately, a bad time for fantasy owners of the New England signal caller), yet in every other week, Brady ranked in the Top 25 for fantasy points among offensive producers. Not much more has to be stated about the incredible fantasy run that Brady had this year... and to think, in many standard leagues, he was not even the first quarterback taken off of the draft board.

Honorable Mention: Peyton Manning, IND

NOTE : Dallas QB Tony Romo had an outstanding season as well, and in most standard-scoring fantasy leagues, even produced more fantasy points overall than Honorable Mention nominee Peyton Manning. Nevertheless, lackluster performances in Weeks 5 (vs. Buffalo) and 15 (vs. Philadelphia) really threw a wrench into this fantasy equation. We cannot overlook Manning's six-interception performance in Week 10 (vs. San Diego), however, the Indy quarterback performed at a more consistent level throughout the year than did Romo. In turn, the consistency that Manning provides is the basis of what fantasy dynasties are built upon.

RB1: LaDainian Tomlinson, SD - Tomlinson's numbers were definitely off of his record-setting season from 2006, however, he still remains one of the top fantasy studs in football. Though many believed that he had a rough start to the '07 season, in actuality, Tomlinson only saw one truly "poor" showing early on in most standard-scoring leagues (vs. New England in Week 2). Other than his performance in Week 2, Tomlinson was held for under double-digit fantasy points in only one other week (vs. Houston in Week 8), which bettered any of the other top fantasy running backs in the league (Honorable Mention RB1 Joseph Addai recorded single-digit fantasy points in four weeks). In addition, Tomlinson showed his top-notch fantasy value down the stretch, in which he posted fantasy point totals of 31, 22, 23, and 16 during Weeks 13-16 respectively. Throw in the fact that he tallied the third most receptions among running backs in the '07 fantasy season (59 through Week 16), an added bonus for owners in PPR leagues, and Tomlinson once again gets the nod as the most dominant fantasy back in the game. In most standard-scoring league, Tomlinson found himself in the Top 25 fantasy offensive producers for six weeks (tied with both Joseph Addai and Jamal Lewis among running backs), and was the top-rated fantasy back in Weeks 13 and 14.

Honorable Mention: Joseph Addai, IND

RB2: Jamal Lewis, CLE - After being basically thrown out of Baltimore for coming back down to earth following a sensational 2003 campaign, many fantasy owners were still weary of just how effective Lewis could be in Cleveland this season.
