10 Bold Predictions for the 2008 MLB Season...

I'm back...did you miss me? Probably, but you won't admit it. But enough of that locker room-esque talk its time for America's pastime that doesn't require pads, unless you're a catcher or a base coach. Yes, it's time for the sport more tainted than a law passed by Gov. Spitzer. Yes, its time for baseball, and what better way to kick it off than with a bunch of bold predictions from yours truly, the one who said J.D. Drew would come through in the playoffs, the one who said the Yankees would miss the playoffs and the one who has just written a whole paragraph completely irrelevant to baseball anywho here are my bold predictions for the 2008 MLB season...

1. The Boston Red Sox will be swept in the World Series by the New York Mets thanks to a hat holding homerun saving catch by a no name outfielder. (yes I'm still bitter by that Feb 3 incident)

2. The Seattle Mariners will almost make the playoffs but then they realize that they will have to overtake the Angels for the division or possibly the Detroit Tigers/Cleveland Indians/New York Yankees for a wild card, thats a tough wall to climb.

3. Dontrelle absolutely BLOWS IT.

4. Midseason baseball becomes less relevant because Barry Bonds will somehow beat his perjury case.

5. The Los Angeles Dodgers will make the playoffs, but Joe Torre will be snubbed as Manager of the Year because....

6. The Milwaukee Brewers will win the NL Central, and have one of the top records in the league.

7. Dice-K will be an All-Star this year, as well as become a good Cy Young candidate with at least 17 wins

8. Joba Chamberlain is overrated; he will prove my point when he becomes a starter.

9. The St. Louis Cardinals prove once and for all they are the biggest disappointments in Missouri by bombing this season. Pujols will demand a trade at the end of the season, leaving the usual suspects (Sox, Yanks, Mets, Angels) to drool over him.

10. David Ortiz Susan Lucci-ism is finally cured as he finally wins the AL MVP award.

Welcome back, Trizz. I missed you, and I admit it!

Where have you been?

I agree with 2, 3, 4, 7, part of 8 (that he's overrated now compared to what he'll do this season), and 9.

but the real question is will dice-K's era go down?

Does it matter? As long as he gets those wins for us. If the offense gets better, Dice-K doesn't need to worry as much. Dustin will start off good, rather than with that .200 average he had in April. Manny showed up early to camp this year, because it's his final year; I'm sure he wants to make an impact. Ortiz is getting healthy, and you can tell by his average; his power numbers will be up there this year too. J.D. Drew? Well, I'm expecting at least a minor rebound year for him. We have Ellsbury instead of Crisp. Varitek's average is slowly increasing after that injury he had in '06. The only person I see doing worse than last year is Mike Lowell because of the fact that he did SO well for the Sawx last year, and it his contract was up; now he's got nothing to worry about. I can see Dice-K, and a lot of the pitchers like and Colon and Wakefield, getting 15 wins each with the offense I'm expecting from the Sawx.

Pshh, Cubs will win the division, but the Brewers could get an at large bid... I mean Wild Card.

Alfonso Soriano will come back, and when he does, it'll be just like last year.

I don't think Pujols is the kind to demand a trade. I see him more as a KG/Todd Helton than a Kobe/AI.

Good call, Dontrelle Willis will suck hardcore.

Joba will be solid out of the pen, but not as a starter, kind of like Papelbon. Another good one.

I don't think Ortiz will ever win an MVP because he gets so undervalued being almost strictly a DH. PLus there's always the little problem of A-Rod and his anual 50+ homers...

I concur on Pujols, Bobbyjim. I disagree with Trizz about the Cardinals season prediction.

Alex Rodriguez only hit 50 home runs three times (2001-02, 2007). That doesn't classify as annually. But, your point has been made...

Yeah, he's getting back to those Ranger days where he used to hit 50+ homers, 130+ RBIs, 125 runs scored, 180-190 hits... I think he's going to collect the same stats he did last year, if not better. He's striking out less, getting feared more, coming up in clutch situations (besides the playoffs... and even THOSE numbers are getting better), and his all his numbers, SLG standing out the most, have increased dramatically.

11). Frustrated that NL pitchers have finally figured him out, (he can't hit anything slower than 85 mph) and that he has fewer homers at the All Star break than Shane Victorino, Ryan Howard hires Rob Deer as his personal hitting coach.

If I've learned anything from watching these players come in from Japan it's position players do ok and pitchers don't.Dice K will get rocked this year. The yanks Igawa led the league in K's over there and can't get anybody out over here, and that is the norm rather than the exception.

Wang, granted he's from Korea but he still had a very good second year. Breaking the 2 year rule for asian pitchers. I say the verdict is still out on Dice K, we will know for certain after this year, but it is too soon to tell.
