Are the Saints Back In It?

When the New Orleans Saints started off the season 0-4, almost everyone including me counted them out.

Quarterback, Drew Brees was struggling, throwing 9 interceptions along

with only one touchdown pass. Reggie Bush didn't look like he was going to be the right person to take Deuce McAllister's spot after Deuce got injured for the rest of the season. The offense wasn't clicking and the defense was putting more pressure on the offense.

It just didn't look like the Saints would have another run at the Super Bowl like their magical season last year. It seemed as if they used up their inspirational wins last year and they couldn't carry over the momentum. But the last 4 weeks, it has been a different story. New Orleans has managed to win 4 straight and put themselves back into the hunt for the playoffs.

After an impressive 41-24 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Saints evened out their record to 4-4 and it has them sitting pretty in a very weak NFC South division. They are just a half of game behind the division leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-4).

Drew Brees seems like he is back to normal with 11 passing touchdowns in the last 4 games. With Brees playing well, he could carry his teammates back into the playoffs.

The thing that could help the Saints make it back to the playoffs this year is their schedule.

Here is a look at it...

Nov. 11
St. Louis Rams

Nov. 18
@ Houston Texans

Nov. 25
@ Carolina Panthers

Dec. 2
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Dec. 10
@ Atlanta Falcons

Dec. 16
Arizona Cardinals

Dec. 23
Philadelphia Eagles

Dec. 30
@ Chicago Bears

If the Saints keep playing the way they are now, they have a chance to run through this schedule with no problem. But is it a fluke, or are the Saints as serious as last year? If they are, there will be no doubt that they will be back in the playoffs, pending on the play of the Buccaneers. But for now, it looks like the Saints have their swagger back and we'll see if they can keep it moving.

Yup, New Orleans is back in the hunt for two reasons: 1) The NFC is a pretty easy Conference, although it is getting tougher. 2) They have a fairly easy schedule from here on out.

Those three division games in December will pretty much seal their playoff fate - one way or the other.

You messed up the schedule a bit. The Rams game is this weekend, on the 11th. Every game then moves back a week until December 23, when they play the Philadelphia Eagles (at home). Then they finish with Chicago. That still leaves them in the hunt, but it makes their December look even tougher.

With that patsy schedule they could steal home field advantage.

The Saints are right in the thick of things in the NFC. If they can beat Carolina next week, they will have a legit chance of winning the NFC South.

I think a 9-7 team can take this division. Atlanta is an absolute mess. Carolina can't throw the ball, thus taking away their best weapon. Tampa Bay has all the makings of the only competition for New Orleans. I can see New Orleans finishing no worse than 5-3 going away. Puts them right in the thick of a division title race in a sub-par NFC South

All those people who counted the Saints out after 4 weeks were dumb. I knew the Saints would come back strong, and I won't be surprised if they win this division.

This is indeed a glorious time to be of the black and gold faith. And while my original 13-3 prediction seemed preposterous a few weeks ago, 12-4 ain't lookin to shabby right about now!
