[edit] Biography
Aqib Talib is a junior cornerback at the University of Kansas.
Talib redshirted in 2004, making his 2005 his freshman year. He was named All-Big12 Honorable Mention by conference coaches, a Freshman All-American by Rivals, and received Freshman All-Big 12 honors by The Sporting News. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram named him Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, as he complied 54 tackles and two interceptions.
In 2006, Talib lead the Big 12 with 22 passes broken up and six picks, earning second-team All-American honors (SI.com) and first-team All-Big 12 honors (coaches, AP, and four newspapers). He also scored a touchdown as a wide receiver.
[edit] Scouting Report
Talib is often referred to as the best coverage cornerback prospects in the 2008 NFL Draft (assuming he makes himself eligible), and is sometimes cited as an example of a "shutdown cornerback" in the mold of Champ Bailey. Quarterbacks often throw toward their second or even tertiary wide receiver when playing Kansas. He can also line up as wide receiver, a testament to his speed and good hands.
Because of his misleadingly low 40-time and his size, it's possible that Talib will be used as a safety in the NFL. If he adds some muscle, he could become a free safety who can deliver a hit.
