- The Boston Bruins defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the 1938-39 Stanley Cup. It was the first time the best-of-seven series was used. The final series had been a best-of-five in previous years.

- The Toronto Maple Leafs became the first NHL team to win three consecutive Stanley Cups titles.
