Angels OF Juan Rivera injured during Winter League action

MLB.com announced earlier today that Angels outfielder Juan Rivera broke his left leg during a Winter League game on Friday in Venezuela. According to Angels officials, Rivera's leg was placed in a hard cast and he was flown to Miami to be seen by a trauma specialist. Rivera's name had recently been mentioned in the on-again, off-again trade rumors which would bring Todd Helton to the American League.

How many major leaguers play winter ball and how many of them actually get injured? It's very rare.

I'm sure it's a quality of care issue. Would you rather take your chances with a Venezuelan doc or one in the USA? That being said, I'm sure it's an orthopaedic doctor and the use of the term trauma specialist was just a convenient euphemism.
