Andruw Jones signs with a California team.

Andruw Jones late Wensday night signed a 2 year 36.2 million dollar deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The San Francisco Giants were going after him also but he really wanted to play in L.A. Once again the Giants lose out on a addition to their team. They also attempted to get Miguel Cabrera but were outbid by the Detroit Tigers.

Jones will receive a $12.2 million signing bonus, of which $5.1 million is payable next year, $2.1 million in 2009 and $5 million in 2010. He well get salaries of $9 million next year and $15 million in 2009, he also will receive a no-trade clause. This will move Juan Pierre to one of the other outfielder positions. This move strengthens the Dodgers defense -- Jones has won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves dating back to 1998. He had an off year at the plate, hitting only .222 when he averages .260 through out the rest of his career. Hopefully this move will reestablish his swing and after the two years he will be a free agent at the young age of 32.

1st- the Giants pulled out of the Cabrera talks long ago because of what they wanted 2nd- Jones wasn't really on their radar...They really don't need another washed up player

I wouldn't call Andruw washed up. He has at least 1-2 Gold Gloves under his belt. Granted, the 2007 season saw Andruw more as an offensive liablity than an asset but he kept the Braves in most games with his glove. He'll bring some stablity to the Dodgers outfield and will have two former South Alabama Jaguars playing with him. Names later. I have seen Andruw play in the minors and I don't see him as an alinator, Ironman. There's talent on the Dodgers, they have to tap into it and if signing Andruw Jones to keep him as far away from their hated rivals, San Francisco, then Vin Scully will have some fun this season.

By the way, the two former South Alabama players --

Luis Gonzalez, who started his career with Houston before moving on to Arizona and winning a World Series.

Juan Pierre, the last South Alabama Jaguar to win a World Series ring.

Jones would have prob gotten close to $25 mill a year if he would have one of his usual years for the Braves this year. But, his down year resulted in an 18 million a year contract with a short term deal. I like the Dodgers making a play at a slugger, something they could really use.

This makes Juan Pierre one of the biggest wastes of money in the league. He's a no-hit center fielder whose defense matters almost zero now.

$18 million a year will put Jones into the Top 10 in salaries for players. Does anybody out there think Jones is a Top 10 player in baseball?

Is he? No.

Could he be? Yes.

Will he be? No.

Is Joe Torre the right manager for him? Yes.

Will either of them make the Dodgers any better? No.

Looks like Nomar, Jeff Kent and Derek Lowe found a new guy to help them alienate the young guys on the team.

Good sign, if Torii Hunter gets $18 million a season what did you expect for Jones. And I rather have Jones.

A bit much for him, I would not have paid more than $15M, but not unreasonable for today's rates. But at 2 years (Is there and option year?) this is good for both sides. If Andruw plays like he should then in 2 years he'll get the long term deal worth $20M+ per year, but if he stinks up the joint, then the Dodgers are off the hook. His bad season cost him 4 years and $8M over the next 2 years.

Is Lasorda in charge of Andruw's diet?
