As many of you have found out, either in the past five or so years or during his last 4 games, Brett Favre is in consideration for the best QB of all-time. And it could be a reach (to some anyway), to put him in the same category as the greats such as Johny Unitas, John Elway, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Dan Marino, and many more. But, Favre has certainly deserved it, and, unlike Marino, he has a Ring to prove it. Here is what Favre has done in his, long, and perhaps drawn-out 17-year NFL career.
Favre started out as an Atlanta Falcon, where he had no success what-so-ever. Favre played in just two games there, and had a grand total of five passing attempts (none of which he completed), in fact, Favre threw 2 INT's. It's pretty bad when you attempts five passes, and two of them are INT's (40% of his attempts were INT's).
Favre grew up in Mississippi, and that's where he ended up going to college (Southern Miss.). At Southern Miss. Favre started at QB all four of his years, and ended up getting drafted in the second round (33rd overall) of the '91 NFL draft. After his unsuccessful first-year with Atlanta, Favre was traded to the Green Bay Packers for a first-round draft pick on February 10, 1992 (Ha, I wasn't even born then, I was born on July 17, 1992). Brett became the starter in GB after the fourth game of the '92 season. And, you can say the rest is history. Favre went on to have a very successful, and HOF career. The good news: It isn't even over yet. Favre holds five GB records, well, that's just major records, i'm sure he holds a few more than five. He is first in careere GP (243), passing yards (58,705), passing attempts (8,389), completions (5,133), and TD passes (422; also an NFL record), the career TD record was broken on Sunday against GB's rivals-the Minnesota Vikings (record was 420, previously held by Dan Marino).
Favre has won many awards as well. Favre has been to the Pro Bowl 8 times. Here is a long list of Favre's awards, and achievements:
- 1 SB ring (2 apperances, 1 win in SB XXXI)
- 8 Pro Bowl selections
- 3 AP MVP awards ('95, '96, '97)
- 6-time All-Pro selection
- AP Offensive Player of the Year
- 2 UPI NFC Player of the Year awards
- In '99, Favre was ranked number 82 on TSN's 100 greatest players of all-time.
- In '05, TSN published another list, the 50 greatest QB's of all-time. Favre was ranked at number 4 (behind Unitas, Elway, and Montana, and was just ahead of former great Packer QB, Bart Starr).
- Named to the NFL 1990's all-decade team.
- Wisconsin Governor, Jim Doyle, declared November 29th, 2004 Brett Favre day, in honor of his 200th consecutive regular season start.
- In '03, Men's Health Magazine voted Favre the "Toughest person in America".
- In '96, Favre established the 'Brett Favre Fourward Foundation'. He has also held several charity events, and fundraisers, including an annual Golf tournament, celebrity Softball games, and many fundraising dinners. His foundation has donated more than $2 Million to charities in his home state of Mississippi, and as well as to his adopted state of Wisconsin.
Favre has a long list of records as well I must warn you. Here is many of them.
Career NFL Records
- Most career wins as a starter (151)
- 2nd in consecutive games started (241: second to Jim Marshall who has 270)
- First in career TD passes (422: Passed Dan Marino on Sunday, who had 420)
- 2nd in career INT's thrown by a QB (275: just two shy of George Blanda's 277)
- Most career passing attempts, and completions (8,393 ATT, 5,133 COMP)
- 2nd in all-time passing yards (58,705: just 2,657 shy of Marino's 61,361 career passing yards)
Those are all the major records he hold, if you would like to look at them all, I found them on Wikipedia.com, you can check the rest of them out on there.

It's amazing that Favre can have the most career TD passes, and be just 3 INT's shy of being the all-time leader in INT's as well. That just shows you how much of a gunslinger Favre is, and he takes chances, which most of the time end up paying off for him. Favre probably has the strongest arm in NFL history, and I sure don't want to have to try to catch one of his passes. If you really think about it, Favre really hasn't exactly had the best receivers to throw to, either. The best WR he has probably had, would have to be Antonio Freeman, and other than him, and Sterling Sharpe, I really don't think he has had the best receivers. Although, today he does have a highly-underrated Donald Driver, who hasn't come to play for the 4-0 GB Packers so far this year.

BOTTOME LINE: Brett Favre is an automatic first-ballot Hall of Famer. And so far this year, Favre and his Packers are 4-0, as they head into week five. Favre is expected to retire real soon, and when he does, I think it will take a few years for the Packers to get used to not having number 4 at the QB position.

2007 to date: 27rec 323yards 2TDs
2007 projected: 108/1292/8
2006: 92/1295/8
2005: 86/1221/5
2004: 84/1208/9
It just seems to me that he makes the tough catch and gains the tough yards when the Packers most need him to. And he's doing it with defenses keying on him due to a complete lack of a running game and (for the first two games anyway) a rookie who can't get any YAC across the field from him. Now that Jennings is back, Driver should see more favorable match-ups.[/rant]
Side note, I used to drink at the same bars at the same time as Favre when he was backing up Majkowski. To say we drank together would not be an exaggeration, it would be an outright lie.
