An Apology to Philly Fans

Posted by Romiezzo

Last night, I remember writing an extremely cruel comment about Philadelphia and how their culture sucks. I don't know what was going through my mind; I was probably being sarcastic, I don't know. I DO think that Philadelphia is an amazing city with a great sports culture and loyal fans, but I didn't know I was out of line. Again, I apologize on the comment not only to the Philly fans in AGM, but also to the rest of the users on AGM and to all the Philly fans all over the world. Sorry.

You should only apologize if you truly feel you wronged someone...

I agree, and I believe I did. That's why I'm apologizing.

Click here. It's the comment I made where KD and Manny write several paragraphs about how Philly is amazing.

I think Philly fans are just like any other core of fans who tend to be exceptionally passionate about their teams. I don't really think you said anything out of line. But I do remember seeing an online poll somewhere saying that Philly fans were the toughest on the opposition's fan base than any other in the country. From first hand knowledge, a Penguins fan is not exactly accepted into Wachovia Center with open arms. Nor was my friend, a Giants fan, this past weekend at the Linc. I also have more examples of Boston fans in NYC, NY fans in Boston, Devils fans in Pittsburgh and Flyers fans in Boston.

Well put, FrankD. From what I see on AGM (because I don't know any Philly fans in person), JuTMSY4, Christof, etc. are very passionate about their teams, like you said. I think I went out of line, because I compared Miami (a team that was talked about having a bad sports culture) to Philly.

And as far as Flyers fans in Boston go, I understand; they haven't been doing so well. :P

What are you doing?

You weren't offensive and you shouldn't apologize!

Philly is what it is. But it ain't a paradise by any means. Philly fans know their sports because living there sucks. The weather is schizophrenic - flooding-drought, flooding, drought, humidity, drought, rainrainrain - the traffic is downright disgusting and everyone is pissed off at meaningless stuff all the time, drama drama drama. That's why the people are so tough on athletes - they hate their lives so everyone else should too!

Sports and food drowns all of that out. Philly fans are the most passionate because it's an escape from the dreariness - why do you think so many of us "Philly guys" DON'T live there anymore?

BTW - I smile more, my blood pressure has fallen dramatically and I've lost weight since moving to AZ.

My apology to Philly fans:

I'm sorry you have to live in Philadelphia. If you've gotten out of that dump, congratulations. More importantly, I'm sorry that your teams are generally bad. The Phillies have over 10,000 losses. The Flyers will get more suspensions this season than playoff wins. The 76ers are one of the worst teams in the NBA. And the Eagles had their chances to get to the Promised Land, came up short, and now they're back to mediocrity.

I'm just messing with you, Philly fans. But when the rest of us say things like "Philly fans are loyal and/or passionate," aren't we really implying that they support their teams even though those teams really suck?

And, Romi, don't apologize for what you said. It wasn't that bad, and I don't think it pissed anybody off too much.

Tennessee Titans' quarterback Vince Young practiced for the first time in nearly a month. Young knee got sprained on September 7, and looks to regain his strength so he can play for the Titans. The question is do they really need him? Kerry Collins has been doing very well, leading Tennessee to their last 3 victories in what is a 4-0 season so far.
