Allard Baird Fired

13
Vote

The Kansas City Royals fired their GM Allard Baird on Wednesday. Atlanta Braves assistant GM Dayton Moore will replace Baird. Sources told the Kansas City Star that Moore will receive a five-year contract and complete control over baseball operations. He'll officially take over the GM role after next week's draft.

If a GM falls in the stadium and there are no fans there to hear it, does it make a sound?

It's a good thing they blamed this on the GM, not the manager(a.k.a, the Scapegoat).

Does anyone know anything about Moore? Is he a numbers guy? A makeup guy? Will he turn around the Royals and turn them into the Indians and/or the A's?

If this is the only move the owner is willing to make, it's quite possibly not all that earth-shattering. I have all the hope in the world for the new GM, but Glass has got to spend a little money on players.

Coming from the Braves system, I'm guessing he's not a Billy Beane devotee... But, I could be wrong.

From what I found he is more of an anti-Moneyball guy. He began his career as a scout and has been involved with the Braves scouting or player development depatments for his entire career. During Theo's hiatus he was considered for the Boston GM job. He is also pretty young, I believe 39 or 40.

One other note, I saw one report that one of the other candidates the Royals were considering was Randy Smith who was in charge of the Tigers from '96-'03. That's just who you want, the man responsible for the '03 Tigers and their AL record for losses. Brilliant.

Finally! He deserved to get canned, the only mainstay they've had is John Buck(Who???). Plus you know he just refused to write those checks... oh no nevermind they need a new owner.

What has he done now that he wasn't doing last October? Probably not the best of times to change GMs. I hope Moore has already done his homework for the draft coming up soon...
