Born on May 7, 1917 in Divernon, Illinois, Al Papai (Alfred Thomas Papai) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Browns, Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 4 year career. Papai broke into the bigs on April 24, 1948 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 5.06 ERA in 142.1 innings pitched in 1949, his rookie year.
