Born on October 9, 1865 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Al Maul (Albert Joseph Maul) played for the Philadelphia Keystones, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Burghers, Washington Senators, Baltimore Orioles, Brooklyn Superbas and New York Giants over the course of his 15 year career. Maul broke into the bigs on June 20, 1884 with the Philadelphia Keystones, and put up a 5.54 ERA in 50.1 innings pitched in 1887, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Al Maul's best season was 1898, when he posted a 2.10 ERA and won 20 games.
