Adrian Peterson out for the Year

13
Vote

Heisman Trophy canidate Adrian Peterson broke his collarbone while diving into the end zone Saturday against Iowa State. The Oklahoma star running back will miss the rest of the regular season. Without a doubt this is a huge blow to the Sooners Big XII title hopes.

I was at work when it happened and the news trickled through the store that Peterson broke his collar bone. Then on a break I saw it was on a 55-yard (or whatever) TD run and couldn't figure out how he broke his collar bone on a TD run. Then they showed a replay and I was waiting for him to get creamed at the goal line, I saw him dive and though.... he deserved to get hurt.

cpcp, watch the replay again. Peterson was tapped to his left by a defender and then another defender hit his left leg and through him off balance. He then tumble, fell, dove into the endzone and landed with all his weight on one elbow -- a great way to break your collar bone.

That wasn't as big a blow to their Big 12 title hopes as losing to Texas. When they lost that game, they put themselves in a situation where they had to win out, and Texas had to lose TWO, when their remaining opponents were Baylor, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Oklahoma STate, Kansas State and Texas A&M. There simply are not two losses in there. The big blow for OU here is that now, they're probably not even going to land in a decent bowl game. They still have games at Missouri and at A&M.

To put in perspective how important he is, he accounted for 228 of the Sooners' 380 total yards of offense yesterday. He also accounted for two of their four touchdowns, and had their longest reception of the day (29 yards).
