A Good Trade By The Knicks!! Is that allowed?

Wow I'm stunned. When I heard reports earlier of the Knicks acquiring Zack Randolph I assumed they were bunk. How could we get a guy who averaged 25 and 10 last season for Stevey Franchise and Channing Frye? Well it happened. I really assumed that if this trade went down (usually awful) GM Isiah Thomas would be suckered into taking a bad contract back also, like that of Darius Miles. However we are acquiring Randolph and got decent spare parts in Dan Dickau and Fred Jones, both who have expiring contracts anyway.

Wow

I am thrilled. Randolph is probably legitimately crazy. In most cases I wouldn't be in favor of taking such a crappy character guy but we really didn't give up much of anything for him. Francis was useless and Frye only averaged 10pts a game. This trade gives Knicks fans some hope for the upcoming season and the future.

In theory we know have a potentially dominant low post tandem for the next 10 years. Curry and Randolph are going to be tough to stop down low. When you add in Lee it's downright filthy.

I'm pumped.

Now I know what it's like to have a competent GM for your basketball team.

Who cares who we draft now!!

In Zach and Eddy we trust!

The Knicks absolutly came out on top with this one. But I have two questions:

1) When Randolph, Nate Robinson, and Stephen Marbury get into one locker room are the strippers there right away or does it take a few minutes for them to come out? Seriously, for a team of young guys that need solid leadership (which, by the way, is not coming from the coach on the bench), Randolph has the potential to make it all implode (even more)

2. We now have two of the best ten offensive post players in the leage. Both, however, are immovable objects. Eddy NEEDS the post to score, and Randolph is better close to the basket. Can they co-exist?

They'll just pull each other toward the basket. Gravitational pull.

Good point! Malik Rose has to stay and it would certainly help the team if they somehow manage to get another vet on the roster. Youth and all that is fine but you need a couple of guys who will hold the youngsters accountable and who can lead the way...

What are the Vegas odds for the dynamic duo (Isiah and Dolan) to re-hire Larry Brown?

Here's the thing. There's a 50-50 shot Randolph does something crazy but is it really a big deal if he does? Ultimate worst case we have to cut him and eat his contract...Were the Knicks going to be under the cap anytime soon anyway? Before this move the future both near and longterm was bleak. Now as fans we have reason to hope...and when Isiah Thomas is your GM hope is all you can have

It was kind of a weird trade for Portland to me. You trade your best asset, a big man, for essentially Channing Frye. Despite the fact that you've already got Oden, Pryzbylla, Magloire, and Aldridge, and the fact that outside of Brandon Roy your wing players are nothing to get excited about. Why wouldn't you be trying to acquire a Ray Allen or a Rashard Lewis or Richard Jefferson?

Before I analyze the trade, this is what happened last night. First, Mike Toricio (with a big smile on his face) says "Hey Bucher, I hear you have a very important announcement regarding the Knicks. You better say it really louder so all these Knicks fans could hear you." At that point I'm thinking, HOLY SHIT! KOBE!!! I mean, how can you not? That Tirico tricked me! Anyway, when he announced that it was Randolph, I was like, o ok, it's not Kobe, but it's still good.

Now to analyze it. This trade works for both teams. For Portland, Greg Oden is a fun-loving guy who will be the next athlete comedian to take Shaq's spot. How can you hate this guy? Now put him next to Zach Randolph and Darius Miles and you're sweet funny kid will turn swiftly into a juvenile delinquent. They had to get rid of Randolph and they did. Channing Frye was awesome his rookie year, he looked like a great future power forward with the likes of Garnett. Then in his sophomore season, he pretty much... sucked. Now it could be a sophomore slump. If it is, the Blazers now have two good PF's, if not, his contract isn't too crazy and they let him go.

For the Knicks, they get an aggresive power forward who will teach Eddy Curry to become more dominant in the paint. Also, it allows the Knicks to have one of the best front courts in the NBA. On the flip side, they take a chance with putting a thug in a city full of thugs; but big market teams always take chances. This also works because they keep David Lee, New York's favorite, and ship off a failed experiment in Steve Francis who has a horrible contract.

After being minorily disappointed last night with Tirico pumping me up to think the Knicks got Kobe, I can say I'm very happy with this trade. Hell, even Bill Simmons approved! BILL SIMMONS! The ultimate New York hater approved what the Knicks did. What's next? Is he going to predict the Yankees will bounce back after the All Star break?? Anyway, good trade, good insight by most people here.
