AI Staying in Philly...for now

Billy King has decided to take his time and consider all offers for Allen Iverson. "We never put a timetable on this," King said. "The only timetable I'll put on this is to make the best decision for this franchise for the long haul. We've got to be very methodical as we go through this and do our due diligence. This is not something we're going to rush into."

What bothers me about this decision is if King is going to take his time, that means Iverson will be paid to sit on the bench for an excessive amount of games. King clearly wants young players he can build his franchise around in return for AI. So getting "the right deal" could possibly take a long time.

King needs to talk to Iverson and pursuade him to play. King should force Iverson to play or suspend him without pay if he is going to "take his time". In today's sports world, you never see a player sit out for a more than a handful of games if they demand a trade.

Take your time King and tell Iverson he has to play and if he doesn't, you take away the one thing that he loves: money.

You must have forgot about Ron Artest who the Pacers sat for almost all of last season before trading him.

But I also forgot that Ron Artest was in a brawl the season before and he was fighting off an injury with his knee. He requested a trade and a week later he recieved it. He did not sit because of his request, he sat because he was injured.

Sixers SHOULD keep Iverson at home until the trading deadline. That is when he will have max trading value. As far as this season, who cares, the Sixers are going NOWHERE. Take the losses and the greater chance of getting the #1 overall pick.

send him out to the Wolves, it can be a dump off trade:
  • We get AI and some worthless player
  • You get a 1st round pick, ricky davis, mike james, McCants or Foye, Griffin, and Jaric

I agree with False Prophet: He really should go to the Wolves because the Wolves needs a superstar to give Garnett and hand and the 76ers need to rebuild. Imagine McCants and Foye, two possible pieces of the trade, in a 76er uniform.

Keeping him home, on the other hand, is saying to fans they are throwing away their season, meaning people will not buy tickets, not attend games, and not watch it on television. By keeping him, the 76ers are losing public approval and money at the same time. Even if AI wants to be traded, he is still an icon in Philly and fans would still want to watch him. He is the biggest thing in Philly since Dr. J.

And it does not increase his trade value at all. Please explain to me why it would because quite frankly I do not agree. Wouldn't it make more sense to play the player so you can advertise him around the league to AI's possible suitors?

It would because then a team that is desperate for a Guard will send anything they can to pick him up. Because of the fact that he hasn't been traded yet leads me to believe that he won't be in a Wolve Uniform any time soon. KG is likely off limits, leaving Ricky Davis as the likely absorber of a lot of the money to pay for AI. I think that Philly doesn't want davis and wants both McCants and Foye leaving the wolves in a predicament where they are likely not to have their next two first round picks (trades to LAC and BOS), and not being able to bring in a good player to help KG unless they give up their only 2 young stars

I agree yet again with Prophet, but out of all possible destinations that will suit Iverson's need to win and be with a superstar, Minnesota is the place to go.

Trade him to Sacramento straight-up for Mike Bibby and a ham sandwich. That's about the best deal you'll get for him right now. Iverson and Artest on the Kings... Bibby and Webber reunited in Philly... it's a match made in heaven.

King is begging AI to stay home so he can take a shot at Oden in 2007.
