A-Rod Has Words for Mirabelli

13
Vote

According to the New York Post, Alex Rodriguez confronted Doug Mirabelli late yesterday afternoon. He questioned that what Mirabelli said about A-Rod's actions at the plate Tuesday night, after A-Rod homered but looked around for the ball as if he didn't know where it went.

"He told him he should know better than that," the source said. "He told Mirabelli that he wouldn't disrespect the game or show up Tim Wakefield. He told Mirabelli he should know better to say anything like that because they played together."

Mirabelli was annoyed that A-Rod didn't know he went deep. Mirabelli believed A-Rod was grandstanding. "The guy's got 450 home runs," Mirabelli said. "He doesn't know when he's squared one up? I don't believe that."

He would easily have told if he hit a Home Run, not just from how it felt when he hit it, but from the reaction of the crowd. Still, if he says he didn't know, I suppose we have to take his word for it. Unless he was pulling a face at the same time, I don't think it was disrespectful. The analogy "mountain out of a mole hill" springs to mind.

Mirabelli was just looking for the opportunity to pull his best Varitek impersonation.

I thought Arod looked genuinely confused and I didn't think he was sandbagging. If he was he deserves an academy award.

I'm willing to believe A-Rod both of grandstanding and being a moron, so either explanation works for me. I can't wait to see what the NESN commentators have to say about this tonight.

I didn't think he was grandstanding. Typically when a player does that he's doing it just to make himself look good so everyone can admire him. When he hit that homerun he looked like a complete jackass. Manny, the night before? Now -that- was grandstanding. He hit that home run and he was damn proud of it. If that's what A-Rod was going for, he should take some lessons from Manny.

Yeah, I am gonna believe A-Rod. I mean he did tell the truth when he "accidentally" knocked the ball out of Arroyo's hand, right? Good old 'Honest A-Rod'.

I agree with Steak. Manny's homer was grandstanding. Mirabelli mentioned that ARod has hit 450 homers, and for exactly how many of those has he been caught grandstanding? I'm no fan of ARod, but he's not the showboating kind. As for the "feel" and the "reaction of the crowd," how often are those wrong? You might think you feel a homerun, but you get a popout, or it lands in a gap and you get caught getting a single on what should have been a double. And the crowd is wrong ALL THE TIME. Every single game, I hear people screaming about a routine popout that goes nowhere near the wall. Neither of those things should be what determines whether a batter walks around the bases or runs. He needs to find the ball for himself.

If Mirabelli is so concerned about people respecting the game, maybe he should start by talking to Manny. Oh wait he just wants to say what the fans and media want to hear by bashing A-Rod.

Can someone please explain this to me? Do I have theorder wrong or did ARod "grandstand" first only to be followed by Manny? If so, isn't is possible that Manny was merely responding to ARod's grandstanding?

But ARod wasn't grandstanding. That, and Manny does that crap all the time and so does Bonds. What happened to pitchers buzzing these guys up and in when they do that? And although Manny hit a monster shot, his team was still trailing when he hit it, 7-4. It wasn't like he tied the game or anything. Manny was just admiring himself.

Yeah that was definitely uncalled for what Manny did. But even though I poo-poo that stuff I can't help but laugh when I see it. If he stood there any longer, he would've needed a chair!

Hey, anyone else tired of getting minused by bitter, obnoxious Red Sox fans not for saying something that's unintelligent, but for saying something that goes against their precious Red Sox?

I can totally take a joke. I thought my Manny book title was a fun joke. You're the one that has started throwing minuses on everything I say whether it is good or not.

As a Sox fan I have to admit, I hate talking to most other Sox fans about baseball. From "Mirabelli is our savior" to "Why did we ever trade Bronson Arroyo!?!?1!!!111one"....I have no idea how we got the rep for the smartest fans in the game.

I'm a yankee fan and actually not a huge fan of A-Rods but, give it rest. A-Rod does not grandstand, does a lot of other stupid things but, he does not grandstand. Manny however does it all the time. he should be pitched inside and/or hit regularly.

did you see manny when mo pitched slightly inside a few times? it was hilarious. the guy was tripping all over himself. he acted as though he never encountered an inside pitch? him and ortiz dig in so much and are not able to even move when someone throws inside.

I thought your Manny book title "joke" was moronic, thus why I gave it a minus. In fact, I only give people minuses if I think their comments are moronic.

manny and ortiz, pitch them up and in a few times.....they will not be such good hitters anymore. it's a total embarrassment that the league does not pitch these two inside.
