Stephen Hendry made his 700th century break of his 21 year career this week as he beat Australian Neil Robertson 5-0 in Round Two of the 2007 Malta Cup. That is more than anyone else in the history of the game, ahead of the great Joe Davis, who mustered 687 in his career.
Hendry lost 5-4 to Allister Carter in the Quarter Finals after suffering with stomach cramps.
The Semi Final lineup is a surprise one, with Carter taking on Shaun Murphy in one, and the other between the much improved Peter Ebdon and Ryan Day, in his first ranking event Semi Final.
Ronnie O'Sullivan, who won the Masters only two weeks ago lost in Round One, 5-3 to Michael Holt. John Higgins lost to Marco Fu. Graeme Dott lost in the Quarter Finals to Murphy. Mark Williams lost in Round One. Defending champion Ken Doherty lost in the Quarter Finals to Ebdon.
It has been a week full of surprising results.
