6 Players Named to Home Run Derby; 2 Spots Still Open

16
Vote

by user Romiezzo

There are three, so far, that represent the American League, and three that represent the National League.

They are:

  • Vladimir Guerrero
  • Magglio Ordonez
  • Justin Morneau
  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Prince Fielder
  • Ryan Howard

What are your thoughts about these picks so far? Who would you like to see compete in the Derby?

Carlos can actually hit with power. He has even been utilized as a pinch hitter.

Fielder would have to hit 2 home runs to equal the distance of howards bombs...har...it should be fun to watch these guys...

JuT, that would mean Fielder wins, 2-1. In the Derby it doesn't matter how far you hit them.

It won't happen, but Griffey Jr., Bonds, ARod, Pujols, Howard, Dunn, Vlad, and Richie Sexson. Some real power

I, personally would want to see Adam Dunn take some swings in the Derby, but I think he's nervous about swinging and missing a lot...

Anyone wanna make some challenges about who's going to win the home run derby? Someone from the NL, someone from the AL, a certain individual? Your call. Just an idea, for a lil bit of anxiety and a lil spice to see what happens and who wins the challenges in the end...

I've got to go with Ryan Howard no matter who the other entrants are. Seems strange they are still trying to find entrants this close to the contest. If Jason Kendall and Juan Pierre had made All Star team they could have been the last two entrants. Ordonez is not a big home run hitter so agree with Corey about him being first eliminated.

Wouldn't you guys think that Barry Bonds would be the last NL player to get in the HRD? It's his ballpark, that definitely has something to do with it. It's not like he's going to get booed, or is he? in his own ballpark?

It'll either be Pujols or Bonds in the NL, and either Gary Sheffield, Torii Hunter, or possibly Carlos Pena in the AL, imo

If swinging and missing didn't count for outs, Dunn would win this thing because it would be either a homerun or a strike.

I think Pujols would win, but I don't want to see him in it because we've seen what the derby does to these guys the rest of the way. Btw, I'm rooting for the Prince, he is never cheated on any of his swings.

I'd like to see A-Rod and Adam Dunn, but A-rod's a little hurt still and I doubt Dunn will do it. How about C.C. Sabathia and Dontrelle Willis? I mean, they're good hitting pitchers, hehe. Seriously though, Sheffield would be my choice for AL, there's enough options for the NL that someone will fit in. Heck, that person may somehow win.

Insan...was thinking same thing I was thinking...seems like a lot of the big stars don't want to have anything to do with it...just like the slam dunk contest there are only so many ways to slam dunk a basketball.

Neifi Perez would be in it but he played so lousy even with steroids he didn't make the All Star team and now he can't play anyway....steroids did him a lot of good..one homer in over 60 at bats.

That is true. I don't think Prince Fielder will win it either, for the same reason guys like Mo Vaughn and David Ortiz haven't won it. I don't think he'll have the stamina to win it like you said. Vlad might win it, but I'm gonna go with Miggy Cabrera. He's the underdog, IMO, and he did pretty well last year.
