20 Things That Won't Happen In Sports

Listed below are some things that almost certainly will never happen in sports but there are always exceptions:

1. The Red Sox will never ask David Ortiz to squeeze bunt with bases loaded.

2. Football players will never dunk a coach with Gatorade after losing a game in overtime.

3. We will never see a baseball coach wearing a business suit in the dugout again like Connie Mack did.

4. We will never see a football coach wearing a uniform and pads on the sideline.

5. A manager will never remove a pitcher from playoff game while winning the game to save him for a game that was never played...oops a certain manager did do that last month.

6. A football team ahead by three points will never kick an onside kick with three minutes left in the game.

7. You will never see Manny Ramirez or Barry Bonds sprint out of the batter's box when hitting a home run.

8. We will never see Steve Trachsel pitch a two hour game.

9. We will never see Juan Pierre hit five home runs in a season.

10. We will never see Roger Clemens turn down huge amounts of money to pitch two thirds of a season.

11. We will never see Alex Rodriguez ask for a paycut if he has a bad year.

12. Kobe Bryant and Barry Bonds will never put a team ahead of themselves.

13. Phillies fans will never stop booing bad players....they were booing their own players in 1957 when I saw my first major league game in ]Connie Mack Stadium and now 50 years later nothing has changed.

14. The Dolphins won't go 17-0 again anytime soon, but may go 0-16 this year.

15. We will never see a player play with the pain Mickey Mantle did during his career.

16. We will never see Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro, Sammy Sosa or Barry Bonds actually telling the truth about their use of steroids while under oath.

17. Will never see the Red Sox finish 9th and the Yankees 10th like they did in 1966 when the AL had ten teams.

18. We will never see pitchers with 10-15 records ask for a paycut for a bad season but instead they will ask for a raise.

19. We will never see the player's union tell the players to cooperate with Mitchell investigation.

20. No pitcher under 30 today will win 300 games because of pitch counts or strike out 3000 batters for the same reason.

Good list, Niteowl. As for #1 on the list, I remember seeing David Ortiz trying to bunt single because the infield played the Barry Bonds shift. Pretty good strategy...

He's done it quite a few times successfully. He even had a bunt double a few years back. The shift isn't quite as large with the bases loaded tho so I doubt we see that happening any time soon. (On a seperate note, now that he's proven he can hit to the opposite field, does anyone think the shift gets a lot smaller?)

Should left the one about A-Rod out. Since he is on longterm contract it won't matter if he has bad year or not..he will get his money regardless.

Number 8 is so true. It is an absolute chore to watch a game pitched by Steve Trachsel.

Kobeselfishballhogegoarrogantblahblahblah I know it a lot of fun to rant about Kobe's complete inability to play within a team structure, but please realize that he is the owner of 3 championship rings, which he was instrumental in winning. That's was many as Larry Bird. To put it in different terms, that's also as many as Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing COMBINED!!!

Dont' be too upset because I've been gone for so long and I'm not going to read all these comments but Chicago is one facked up place right now- say no to Kobe and say no to A-hole-- both suck-- both teams will lose more than what they are worth- anyone else who says otherwise is a fack head

I disagree with #6 and #20. #6 I could see happening in a D-III game or in a high school game as a way to prevent another team's high powered offense from taking the field.

Johan Santana is 28 and has 93 career wins. He will probably be going to a big amrket team very soon, and if he pitches until he's 43, and averages 13.8 wins per season, he'll have 300 wins. If he pitches until he's 40, he'll only need to average 134.9 strikeouts per season to reach 3,000.

Then you've got guys like Verlander, and other young up and coming pitchers.

I hear what you're saying on #15, but Jack Youngblood with a broken leg in the Superbowl, Kirk Gibson hobbling on cortisone in '88, Emmitt scoring TDs with the separated shoulder in the playoffs, Scurt Schilling with his stapled ligament and painted sock, Julian Tavarez pitching with his face... Mick barely scratched his potential before the pain tore him down, these guys went above and beyond their potential THROUGH the pain. Give these guys some credit!

Manny, good point about other players and they do deserve credit for playing through pain but Mantle played with pain for most of his career.

almost half of which that wasn't self inflicted...

And how does that make him different from Ken Griffey Jr? hee hee

Mantle was born too early. These days he'd be scoped and full of cadaver ligaments.

Just knew the Mets would win that last game with Tom Glavine on the mound but he got rocked and gave up 7 runs in a 1/3 of an inning. Willie Randolph can't be blamed for that loss...he had a 300 game winner on the mound and still lost the game and the season.

Jeter has made at least $10 million every season starting with 2000 season and has made $139 million in his career and made $21 million in 2007.

I meant tap- I had an entire sentence where I was writting about a home sex "tape" Jeter and A-hole made with Jay Mariotti filming it- it was pretty good- but I erased it out of fear of being banned- sorry-

Manny, you are right Mantle's drinking didn't help any having to play with a hangover the next day. Griffey Jr. has mostly been on disabled list instead of playing with pain. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems as soon as he is hurt he goes right on DL.

A-Rod actually outhit Jeter in the ALDS with a .267 average to the .176 hit by Jeter. A-Rod made $22 million so the left side of the Yankee infield cost $43 million in salary which is more than than four different teams paid their entire payroll.
