2007 has been a terrible year for sports so far

Why do you ask? The deaths of tons of professional athletes and coaches: Including the tragic shooting of Darrent Williams. And the passing of coaches Skip Prosser, and Bill Walsh.

So many sports scandals: When is the last time you have seen a major scandal in 3 out of the 4 major sports? And of course the Tour-de-France was tainted due to many cyclists getting the boot for cheating. Sports has become too greedy, to dependent on winning and money. What happend to the time when most of the players actually played for passion more than money?

Unexciting Title Games: Ohio State vs. Florida was 41-14 in College Football, blowout, uninteresting, boring. In College B'Ball, the NCAA tournament lacked any drama, and the title game was pretty boring and was decided with 4 minutes to go in the game.

The Super Bowl was nice to see Peyton Manning win it all, but it was sloppy, rainy, and lacked any drama after the 2nd dead duck thrown by Gross Wrecksman. The NBA Finals was probably the worst in 40 years. No one cares about hockey in the US anymore.

The only super bright light in sports this year, has been Iraq winning the Asian Cup soccer tournament. Other than that, would you agree that 2007 hasn't been a good sports year?

2007 hasn't been the best, I agree. But... March Madness was awesome. I definitely disagree with you there. And let's not forget the best game of the year can make a run for one of the best games of the decade: Boise State vs. Oklahoma.

There is always a bright side to this silly thing called sports. Sure, there have been these ridiculous scandals and athletes dying, but there's also been, in no particular order...

Jon Lester, Boise State/Oklahoma, the Saints going deep in the playoffs, Roger Federer continuing to dominate, Virginia Commonwealth over Duke, LeBron's 48 Special, Texas/Oklahoma State in 3 OT, Durant and Oden, Oregon State baseball winning back-to-back championships, Sidney Crosby winning MVP...the list goes on...

And that is why I write about and love sports.

really you followed Beaver baseball? i can sorta buy hockey, although most people don't follow it, but college baseball? As good a story as the Boise state game was, it really didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. i loved the VCU-Duke game, but i can't imagine it would rank in the top 5 of most years ncaa tournament games.

Yeah, all super entertaining...

Except John Lester...get off your high horse on that...

I have a rule of thumb...if my dad mentions it to me, it was special on a national...he never mentioned John Lester...

How come no one on AGM trumpted Phil Kessel...who is probably better at what he does than Lester at what Lester does...

Although, for the first time in my memory...he watched the whole Hall of Fame induction of his guy Cal Ripken...

She's Lester's PR person. She's gotta glorify his name, it's part of her job. :-P

Forgot about Kessel, he's a good story too. Shows you how hockey has kind of fallen in the realm of American sports. I guess a cancer survivor returning to shut down one of the best offenses in the American League doesn't have to inspire you or make you smile. It's different for everyone. But the bottom line is there will be ups and downs, but that's what makes sports great and why we love to write about it.

And I did follow Beaver baseball, no one gave the Beavers a shot and they pulled it off. Those boys are fun to watch.

Well, if the redsox wins..it will be the best year for me, however it's true that Iraq winning the asian cup was the only amazing thing that happened this year, but there is still about 5 Months left till the year. Lets hope something glamerous will happen, hopefully sometime soon ;).

agreed on NCAA tournament. thought it was pretty weak this year. not sure how great Iraq winning in soccer is when they're scared to return to their home country out of fear of assasination.

It's been a pretty bad year this year. The games just keep getting more boring. No one likes to watch the NBA anymore, and the steroids issue keeps coming up. Even with golf. GOLF!! That's another major thing. Another thing, like you said, was the deaths of some great sportsmen, like Bill Walsh.

On the other hand, the superbowl was fun to watch. Bears and Colts was one heck of a matchup. I think another thing was that nothing changed. Everyone likes change, except when it's negative. No one likes to see the same people win over and over again.

Ehh the Super Bowl was okay. First half was kind of interesting with all the fumbles and what not due to the rain (some say sloppy), and the second half is generally viewed as 'boring'. The last exciting Super Bowl was 39.

Devin Hester returning the opening kickoff was the climax of that game for me.

What you've just said is scary - I predicted there would be a lot of sporting deaths this year in January... (Christof will remember...)
