2006 Version of Tecmo Super Bowl

I'm not sure if this is news, opinion, or completely irrelevant to the site, but I thought I'd share it anyway, since a lot of people here are Tecmo freaks. The Tecmo Repository has posted a completely-updated 2006 version of TSB, with current rosters (I believe it even has Deion Branch on the Seahawks), uniforms, and logos. All you have to do to get it is register for an account at the Repository, activate it via e-mail link, and go to this link for download. Oh, and you also need some kind of NES emulator; personally, I prefer NESticle. Also, I must stress that for legal reasons, you have to actually own the original cartridge of Tecmo to use the ROM. With all of that said, you can now enjoy things like this:

UPDATE: This dude is using the updated Tecmo engine to simulate and preview every game of the season. Hilarity ensues...

I just love that the majority of the people that will play this game weren't alive when the first one came out! I have negative time or I'd already have it! (maybe my daughter will 'ask' for it for Christmas??)

I think that screenshot is of a beta version; the one available for download has Stallworth on Philly. I was just guessing at first that the Branch trade was reflected, since Tom Brady was slinging it around to Chad Jackson and Reche Caldwell, but I double-checked, and the rosters are surprisingly current. All I can say is that the guys at the Repository who made this should definitely be in the AGM Hall of Fame, regardless of the voting system controversy!

cpcp: Make sure you click the download link in this article, because the one at their main page doesn't seem to work. Alex: I think there are 3 different ROMs in the .zip, so that every team can be in the game, and any matchup is possible.

Don't use NESticle, it's an ancient emulator for DOS that hasn't been updated since at least '99. FCE Ultra ( http://fceul...download.php ) is much better.

Thanks for the shout out. You don't need to register to download but if you haven't seen any of the things people have been able to modify in the game Tecmo Super Bowl, you'll want to look around. Considering i'm running this server on zero bandwidth, i'm going to get back to trying to optimize it so it works again....

Tecmo Super-Bowl was the best game ever! We played litterally hundreds of hour's. The game play was like no other... and the personal taunting/banter between player's was the best.... However... 'the move' ruined the game... if you were 'Noseguard'... and you 'dove'... nearly 80% of the time you would get a QB sack.... Thus, eliminating nearly 1/2 of the play's... you could only go out of Shot-gun! This was ultimatly led to the games demise.

If you couldnt devise an offense and a game plan to counter the nose tackle, you should never have played the game. Did real gamers outlaw opponents that hit the "b" button faster then them as well??

the sim mode needs to be updates, the BLUE version is the best (with better helmets and normal font), and the photos and some rosters need updating.

Very interesting! Tecmo Super Bowl was the best game ever when I played it, and I was damn good at it as well. The 49ers were easily the best team on the game because they were just loaded on both sides of the ball. It would be a good idea to bring it back but it HAS TO HAVE BO JACKSON! If he doesn't have Bo Jackson, the game will not even matter to me.
