2005 NBA All-Star Game
The 2005 NBA All-Star Game was a major basketball game played on February 20, 2005 in the Pepsi Center home of Denver Nuggets featuring the best players in the National Basketball Association as selected by fans and coaches.
In an All-Star Game that featured seven players 25 or younger and failed to produce a 20-point scorer for the first time since 1981, Allen Iverson's all-around performance was what stood out. He was awarded the All -Star MVP Award for his efforts. The NBA scoring leader during this season, Iverson made his impact in other ways on this night. Whilst he scored 15 points on 4-of-14 shooting, "The Answer" also handed out 10 assists and collected five steals.
Iverson, the superstar guard of the Philadelphia 76ers, was crowned All-Star MVP in 2001, which was the last time the East had won the midseason classic. He scored 25 points to go along with five assists and four steals in 27 minutes.
In the second quarter of this contest, Iverson was the floor general as the East scored 17 straight points at one point and used a 23-3 run to erase a 13-point deficit.
[edit] The Players
Yao Ming led the Western delegation as a center, with Shaquille O'Neal being his Eastern counterpart. These two players both broke the record in terms of the absolute number of votes received in the All-Star Balloting, both ending up with approximately two and a half million votes. Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, Grant Hill and LeBron James were the other Eastern starters, while Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan completed the lineup of Western starters. The Phoenix Suns had the most overall representatives with 3 (Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, and Shawn Marion).
