[edit] Trivia

  • This was the first Subway Series since 1956 and the only one since the Dodgers and Giants moved to California.
  • The 1998-2000 New York Yankees establish a record of ten consecutive games won in the World Series. The previous record was nine by the 1936-1938 New York Yankees.
  • The Yankees were the first back-to-back-to-back Champions since the 1972-1974 Oakland Athletics.
  • The Yankees were the first franchise to appear in three straight World Series since the 1988-1990 Athletics.
  • Starting with this Series, MLB started changing the World Series logo each year. Prior to this, logos were not changed year after year. The 1998 and 1999 series had one logo, the series from 1992 through 1997 had another logo, and the series from 1987 through 1991 had another.

[edit] Quote of the Series

"Piazza gets into one to center, back is Bernie Williams...a threepeat" - FOX Sports' Joe Buck on the Last out.
