The 1986 Chicago Cubs finished with a record of 70-90. They scored 680 runs and belted 155 home runs to go along with a .256 batting average. Jody Davis and Gary Matthews were tied for the team lead in home runs with 21. Keith Moreland knocked in 79 runs. Ryne Sandberg led the team with 178 hits for a .284 average. Ryne Sandberg had a great year on the basepaths with 34 stolen bases.

The team allowed 781 runs and had a team ERA of 4.51. Scott Sanderson and Lee Smith were tied for the team lead in wins with 9. Dennis Eckersley led the team with 137 strikeouts. Lee Smith led the team with 31 saves.
