Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions

The Green Bay Packers rolled into Detroit with a 5-1 record and an earlier victory over the Lions in Green Bay 23-0 back on September 4. Cecil Isbell connected on three touchdown passes and Clarke Hinkle added a field goal to give the Packers an easy 24-7 win. The first touchdown was a 12 yard strike from Isbell to Don Hutson who also booted the extra point. Hinkle then added a 24 yard field goal a short time later to make the score 10-0. Isbell then hit Carl Mulleneaux with a couple of long strikes including a 33 yarder for the score while nearly drifting back to midfield. Hutson added the point after. Later in the 2nd half, Isbell again hit Hutson from 5 yards out while rolling out to his left and throwing back to the right. Hutson again made the extra point. The Lions didn't get much going all day despite having Whizzer White on the field. However, the highlight was late in the 4th quarter when a punt that hit the ground was scooped up by Steve Belichick and returned 77 yards for a touchdown. Augie Lio added the point after to conclude the scoring. This was the only season Belichick played in the NFL and the only punt he ever fielded. His son Bill was the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants under Bill Parcells during most of the 1980's and is now the head coach of the New England Patriots.
